Twisted Seal on fork

Featured Replies

So coming back from a good ride out today I've noticed the seal on my left fork has twisted, caught the fork somehow ( maybe sand related )

Any help how to fix this or is it a bike shop. New seal replacement

Thanks

Unusual problem IMHO, probably caused by dirt while riding. If it was my bike, I would try lubricating it with a drop or two of car brake fluid and bumping it up and down.

Brake fluid is not dangerous to rubber, but is very dangerous for paintwork, so do not get it on your bike's paint.

Wipe off excess.

Best of luck.

Andy

Take the wheel off, undo the two cap screws under each fork leg and pull down on the fork sliders until the lower bearings reach the seals. If you pull down hard a few times, the bearings will pop the seals out, so that you can reinsert and reassemble, but if you just pull and tap down lightly, the bearing will probably pop the seal straight. The whole job would take about 3 minutes.
