September 18, 200916 yr The government announced this morning that it has accepted a proposal by Kensington and Chelsea in London to trial a scheme in which riders will be allowed to cycle the "wrong" way down selected one way streets. London trial to let cyclists pedal the 'wrong' way on one-way streets | Environment | guardian.co.uk I expect this is the news the capital's cyclists were waiting for before deciding to break this particular law.
September 18, 200916 yr Surely not quite a first time, I believe there are already some contraflow cycle lanes in Central London, though I accept a paint marked lane is not quite the same thing. .
September 18, 200916 yr The City announced theirs months ago, they already had some in place where the cycle lane was physically seperated. Since the announcement was made I haven't seen any new signs so maybe they had a change of heart, one road off Moorgate had already been done and remains the same but the rest are still one way only.
September 18, 200916 yr found a short one on route 5 yesterday in Croydon......Felt a bit odd:rolleyes:
September 18, 200916 yr The newspaper report I read said no separate cycle lanes were planned and that this system of cycling the "wrong" way in one-way roads has been widespread in other countries for many years?
September 18, 200916 yr One way wrong way in Hackney In Hackney there are a number of one way roads with a painted bike lanes going yhe other way. I also travel the wrong way down a one way street every day following a cycle route arrow. There are no cycle lane markings on that road and I have to watch out for cars at the start of the road. Once I am on the road (RHS) the oncoming cars don't ever seem to be bothered.
