I have a Jorvik trike come in with a 9 pin electric conversion kit fitted not showing any error message but shuts down after about half a mile then i can power again okay, no reading of MPH and trip mileage working. Fitted a new display no different Any suggestions. It’s a nice little trike 20 inch wheels

I did do a big service on 5 years ago and fitted a new battery

It's going to sleep because there's no movement indicated on the speed display. You need to fix the speed display to solve it, or you can sometimes switch off the sleep in the settings, though it would be better to have the speed displaying.

This interesting, I did wonder if is anything like that, shutting down happens on my other ebike’s after i have stopped say near to about a minute. But with this trike i have not stopped i am moving. But like you say. with no MPH recording it is thinking I have not moved, (very clever thinking on your part )

I have fitted a lot of these kits in 15 years. I am going to switch off the sleep mode. I now recall a stuttering down problem after a mile i had with one, must be eight years ago and that one i unplugged the battery then plugged it back in then okay another mile. Many thanks Ron Tushingham Electric Bikes UK

Why don't you fix the problem of it not showing the speed? In most cases, that's a speed sensor problem. You can cut the sensor off a cheap cycle computer that costs less than a fiver.

£4.44 delivered. I am using one of them.

Are saying to use this unit for only £4.44 if don’t fix MPH working on C500 in fact i do have one newer used that is if i can find it Many thanks Ron

I was referring to the advice that the problem is likely related to a bad speed sensor and that the cheap bicycle computers come with a magnetic sensor which could be used to replace the bad one on the bike - if that is indeed the problem.

I was just showing where you can get one very cheaply.

Here below - I made the relevant part bold.

Thanks i understand what you’re saying, This is a pedal sensor a large disc on the crank . The Bafang mid-drive electric conversion kits i fit they do have a magnet sensor on the rear wheel with magnet on one of the spoke. Some of their displays i have fitted are £100

The speed sensor would be inside the motor if you have one. That's the one you can replace by a wheel magnet type. the sensor on the crank is the pedal sensor. You might want to have a look on the wheel or chainstay to make sure you don't already have a wheel magnet one, where the magnet's been knocked out of line or fallen off.
