April 8Apr 8 Recently purchased a Haibike Flyon...This is now my 6th emtb and also built both a Cube Bafung and a Raleigh Tongsheng...All so called legal ,but the Tongshen does have a throttle..I,ve had a Haibike hard tail, ( Yamaha)..A Giant Fathom 2...A Turbo Levo..A Haibike Allmtn full suspension..and a Raleigh step through Bosch. And now the Flyon...It's just in a different league...In extreme it climbs steepest of tracks with a minimum of effort...Meter suggesting at one point I was putting in a measly 5ftlb and bike sticking in 40!??...I love it..suits me replaced hip, dodgy knee and offsets my AF...but how on earth is this thing legal ?Climbed over peaks other day and on one climb meter was displaying between 650w and 800 for at least 25 mins...Stopped at top ( up by Mam Tor) and motor barely warm..Why bike wasn't more popular I haven't a clue...and yes they have issues with motors but they all do..The Giant motor expired at 1012 miles, the Haibike at 3500...The Bosch is on its way out..Yep,Flyon is silly heavy but once moving and all that torque.👍😁 In extreme I can do 24 mile route with 10% left..How is this bike legal and why didn't it sell better..So far my favourite bike and by some margin.. April 9Apr 9 It's legal because the power output by the controller has nothing to do with the 'Maximum rated power' of the motor. The manufacturer tests and rates the motor and labels it as 250w to be legal, But a motor does not consume a fixed wattage as, say, a light bulb does. It will utilise whatever current is fed into it and will destroy itself if that current is too high.My own hub powered bike displays 750w in maximum power up hill. Still legal if all the labeling is correct.By the way, 1012 miles for a motor is rubbish. My first hub did around 15,000 in 8 years and was only changed because it wasn't strictly legal.
Friday at 16:533 days Author Guess you don't know either..Yep,the Giant wore out early..hence warranty...don't want a hub drive..never found one any good for MTB..
