  1. @anotherkiwiPedelecer - that is quite funny, not really in the spirit. There is a GPS tracking system, all the bikes are equipped with spot systems. http://race.thesuntrip.com/en/ The cyclists have left the neutralized section to Chamonix and the race is on. Most riders are heading north to Bern. Another group are heading across Switzerland by the Sion valley and a few riders are heading south to Italy and the Po plain where I expect they will pick up some sunny weather. I spoke to Justin Lemire Elmore, the inventor of the CycleAnalyst power meter, about his bike he's riding to Tehran with his girlfriend
  2. Does anyone know about the Sun Trip? It is a solar powered ebike race from Lyon in France to Canton in China covering 12,000 km? http://www.thesuntrip.com/ I spoke with the race organizer in Chambery today about the event and I took some other footage I'll post later
  3. Those type of brakes are fine. I have an MTB conversion (bafung) with those kind of brakes which I ride in the alpes with zero issues with stopping so they would certainly be fine for a flat commute in terms of stopping distance. The bike, on the other hand, would be a bit of a waste for a conversion.
  4. On road, off road? At what gradient? speed? My 250 watt GS Moon will climb hills round here ok (10% grade, 1000 meters vertical, 18 kph) without overheating, the battery doesn't like it much though.
  5. If you are living in France (some of us do) the French state is giving up to 200 euros off the price of an eBike. Details (in French) here: https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/actualites/A11408
  6. Yes, that's in the French Chartreuse mountains. If you want any better pics in the future PM me. I'm on about 900km at the moment as I've not been cycling much over winter as the roads are heavily salted.
  7. My bike haulin' skis in the mountains:- Battery is good for a 1000m climb but it is dead after that.
  8. On the digital display is each 20% drop shown by 1 bar? Supplemental question, what do the little green leds on top of the Woosh bottle battery mean?
  9. I clicked over 500km earlier in the week and now heading for 600km territory. Had a crank come loose one day, which is pretty common I hear do to the allen key bolts not tightening enough. Half of the riding this year has been in 30C + temperatures (afternoon commute home) so the motor doesn't seem to have too much problem with those conditions. Not many long climbs though and boy does the battery empty fast when you are pulling big amps.
  10. I would be tempted, if you are going to do it at all, to put in a front wheel motor and a small bottle cage battery. I see people using these on racing bikes.
  11. Bare in mind that anything above > 250 watts will require specific insurance in Europe if you use it on the road.
  12. I'm at nearly 400km now, haven't been doing my long commute due to a bad hip but the short one is 22km. I can to 2 short commutes and one long commute on a charge - that's about 80km but I guess the motor is not doing much work when I'm riding at 27-28km on the flat. There is a bit of side to side movement on the bottom bracket now - I will have to see what needs tightening.
  13. I've just charged the battery, took 2 hours 45 minutes but the young lad did about 10km on it when I got back riding round the square. Here is the unboxing of the kit darn, no idea who the young lady is !
  14. Went out on a longer climb today. 550 meters vertical. Battery was on 2 bars by the end on the display or 3 Leds on the battery. Beat Simon Yates' time on the climb.
  15. I will try that. I've been running things in really and getting a feel of the kit to date.
