Another day, another (Powacycle) battery problem

I should add that it is a nominal 24V battery.

Another day, another (Powacycle) battery problem

The battery is recharged and the voltage is a steady 29V-ish (my previous measurement may have been wrong). I'm guessing the problem may be due to the BMS doing a voltage cut-out and then not being able to recover. Beyond my technical skills - but annoying if the battery cells are still OK.

Another day, another (Powacycle) battery problem

The sun is shining, let's take out the bikes for a little run ....and it failed again, after about 10 minutes (cycling uphill). All the lights out (there are 3 red lights that act as a kind of battery power indicator). Back home again the battery actually registered a small steady voltage...

Another day, another (Powacycle) battery problem

Sorry, I'm not sure of the exact chemistry - it is called a Lipo but I'm sure it is not LiFePo4. I used this daily for commuting, uphill all the way home (but only around 3 miles each way). In the last year and a half, I've used it regularly - including some longer journeys (to the point of...

Another day, another (Powacycle) battery problem

Follow Up Sorry for the delay in updating. The multimeter I bought from Wilkos didn't work, neither did the replacement! In the meantime I opened up the battery again, jiggled all the wires (which seem to be firmly attached) and sprayed WD40 on the inside of the key switch. Then I...

Best Way to Carry battery into work etc

Is there any way you could lock the battery onto the bike? (Assuming you don't need to charge it). I did this for a couple of years at work.

Another day, another (Powacycle) battery problem

Thanks for the comments - this technical help is really one of the great things about this forum! Yes, sorry for not updating - but I dug out my voltmeter and it promptly fell to bits, so I have just bought a new one (from Wilkos). Anyway, I took the battery apart again and this time...

Another day, another (Powacycle) battery problem

Thanks d8veh I have already opened it to look for loose connections, moisture etc. but will check the voltages as you suggest.

Another day, another (Powacycle) battery problem

Powacycle lipo battery for a Salisbury is behaving strangely. Symptoms: 1) charges up fine, battery charger light changes from red to green, three red lights on the battery when switched on 2) Works fine, initially for about 10 minutes, then cuts out completely - no power and no red...

    Powacycle Charger Problem

Sorry, just catching up with this thread. When my Powacycle battery failed, the charger also did not work (no lights came on). I assumed (correctly, as it turned out) that the battery was the problem - not the charger. And a quick fuse change in the battery fixed it. So - just to underline...

Regular exercise on an electric bike pays dividends

Yes, the exercise dimension is one reason I bought an e-bike, using it for commuting and selling an old car. My wife then wanted one to go out for biking day trips - which are now fun rather than hard work. The result is that we have been using them regularly for the last several years. By the...

    Powacycle Charger Problem

Hi, Presumably over a year since you bought it? Even if a bit more, you might still be able to argue for a replacement. My own charger failed a couple of days after purchase and Powacycle couriered a replacement exchange very quickly. By the way, having just successfully replaced a fuse in...

    Powacycle LPX battery dead

d8veh Thanks for the advice/support. You were dead right - the fuse replacement fixed it. Hopefully there's nothing more fundamentally wrong with the battery.

    Powacycle LPX battery dead

Muckymits - absolutely spot on. Thanks you so much. 2 fuses, as you describe, 5 and 40 amps. The 5 amp one was faulty (not obviously burned out). 59p for a new fuse and - hey presto - battery working again. That's £300 of expenditure on a replacement put off for a while, at least!

    Powacycle Salisbury Problem

Hi Del My Salisbury does regularly 'drop out' power for a few seconds (due to the BMS, I assume) but this is rarely a significant problem. However, if more than a couple of times per trip - yes, I guess you may be looking at a mechanical issue with the brake power shut-off.

    Powacycle LPX battery dead

Hi guys, My wife's Windsor lipo battery has just gone dead after 2 years good service, working fine the day before. Charger shows green light (indicating it is charged) but no lights appear on the battery when the key is turned. I'm guessing a blown fuse due to possibly a damaged cell...

    London Cycling Deaths Up Again

I did some work on this when I was seconded to TfL. The stats showed that it was the relatively new cyclists that were being killed and injured, although there is international evidence that if there are more people cycling, it makea it safer overall (i.e. per cycle trip). I pointed out that...

    New battery or new bike

I have a Powerbike Salisbury and I am glad to report that the LiPo battery is well into its fourth year. The Salisbury is sturdy and has operated well off road as well as for commuting 6 miles a day for several years. Not the best hill-climber of course, but a good value all-rounder.

    Ebiking in Banstead (Surrey)

Hi Thank you Flecc (*awe*) I know you are reasonably local (and know the terrain of the Downs) Although there is mow an e-bike store in Coulsden and we sometimes spot an e-bike in Sutton, etc. b. ut e-bikes are still pretty rare. Probably like most owners, I gush on about them at the least...
