Something similar here with a ballon.. Saw it on TV and thought it was a camera trick until it was explained.

even without paying attention to the mathematics, you can predict by looking at the angle of the string.
If it is more or less horizontal, the bike will move backward.
If you pull the string upward at a steep enough angle, the bike will move forward.
