Bizarre freewheel problem

Something strange is happening to my freewheel. when i strop pedalling for a minute and the wheel is turning, and then i start again, it pedals on air for about 4 turns of the pedals, until it hooks up to some weight again. it feels exactly like the chain keeps coming off.

Obviously the core of the freewheel is somehow defective. how is it possible, what should i do?

Do you have an Agattu or pro connect. If so you might want to check the chain tensioner is working smothly as this can give a very loose chain if its not moving freely.

Hi

It is just on my regular bike... It is something happenning between the axle and the cog, rather than making a transfer with the internal latches of the freewheel, the freewheel is able to rotate about 10 times on air prior to connecting to the axle.

Yep. Duff freewheel mechanism. You need a new freewheel/cassette...off you go to the bike shop I'm afraid!
