Do batteries recover?

As per a previous thread, I was stranded a couple of miles from home the other day with a dead battery (under-charged, not the battery's fault). It's a lithium polymer type, 16Ah, 592Wh. I ended up cycling the rest of the way (hard work, it's a heavy old thing) and pushing up a steep hill. I am now wondering - if I had just stopped for 10-15 minutes and tried again, would the battery have recovered at all? I know disposable batteries and the lead-acid type will recover some charge if they are allowed to rest (e.g. starting a car), but is it the same for the type of battery we have in our bikes? Just curious, and might save me some grief in the future.

Normally, no. Sometimes you can get a minimal amount if you stick to level 1.

Right, understood. Thanks.
