Following on from the thread mentioning that Rad Power Products are pulling out of EU sales, I spotted the following article, but couldn't discover who the 9 fined manufacturers were?

£1,200 fine per unlicensed moped. £13,000 fine per seller.
it's about time our government should follow the example of the Netherlands and enforce the law.

In November 2022, 27 internet providers of these 'fatbikes' received a warning of the inspection. The technical specifications showed that the vehicles offered cannot be regarded as an electric bicycle (bicycle with pedal assistance). Two-wheeled vehicles that go faster than 25 km per hour with pedal assistance and/or have a power higher than 250 Watts and/or with which you can get ahead without pedaling (for example by means of a throttle) are mopeds. They may only be offered/sold if they have an approval.

In addition, it is forbidden to ride on public roads without type approval, without license plate, without liability insurance, without a license and without wearing a helmet with such a 'fatbike'; The police enforce these rules. If each violation is fined separately, the total fines can amount to € 1,400,-.

After the warning in November 2022, 15 providers stopped offering/selling the 'fatbikes'. In April 2023, the remaining 12 providers received an intention to pay a penalty payment; They were given the opportunity to respond. The procedure is still ongoing for 3 providers and 9 have received a penalty payment from the ILT.

Strange that even the article you posted got the law wrong with this statement:

"The technical specifications showed that the vehicles offered cannot be regarded as an electric bicycle (bicycle with pedal assistance). "

It's pedal bicycle with POWER assistance, the chumps.

Whoever the 9 fined manufacturers are, Rad Power say they aren't one of them in this blog-post on their own EU website here.

Can't see how it would be RadPower. Their bikes are locked down good. Display speed menu not accessible, controller programmed limits too, won't even show power level in watts.
One can get a *little*more assist if holding throttle fully open while climbing *with* pas. A *little*, phew!
I also got the email about them pulling out of Europe in a few months time, "to concentrate on US market", or words to that effect.
Did anyone get the funny YT vid about young people in China buying electric wheelchairs to circumvent the new ebike bans or regs? :)
