It's not very likely to be the motor itself. Check the connector on the left chainstay. They often give problems - sometimes the wires are too tight, so it gets pulled a bit. Make sure the wires are not that tight.

How did the problem start? That often gives a clue to what's wrong.

Hi thanks for info, brought it cheap as not working and had to rebuild rear wheel, new spokes and true wheel, tried testing a few times and code e42 comes up and motor stops working, had a look at wiring and all seems in place ? Not looked at hub sensor yet ?

When yo
The E42 is a motor Hall issue , so either a broken /intimittent wire contact or the motor Hall has failed .
One can carry out a smple motor Hall test.
HallSensorTesting.cdr (ebikes.ca)

A fix means opening the motor up.

The problem is to get at the wires in order to test them. There's a connector at the battery end, but I'm not sure whether you can get probes up the back of it. you might be able to by taping thinner pins to the probes, otherwise you need a spare connector with flying leads.

This is the cable and connectors (says display cable, but it's a motor one):

Yes that is often an issue with proprietary electrics that are WP, for us mere mortals who use nice KT sm stuff it's not an issue.
