Giant Suede

Hi all I've just joined the site and need advice on my recently purchased Giant Suede. To cut a long story short i only got it yesterday and it needs a throttle as the original was missing. Am i right in thinking it will still run (if i can eventually get the battery to charge!) just as a pedal assist and that i can spur off the crank wires to give me a full power boost? Its all new to me so any help will be much appreciated. The other thing is the charger seems to have a mind of its own. ATM its showing a solid orange light which i hope means its charging ok but don't know how long this should take? During the course of this morning i have had orange, orange flashing and briefly a green light but now its back to solid orange and fan etc all working
