I have just bought a bike from e bay and was told that the charger had died - They are going to give me a discount for this, but I was wondering - How much is a charger and are there specific ones for different bikes?

Cheers

It needs to be the right type and voltage Nick, and it looks like it will be a 24 volt lead acid battery type.

If so, you could look on ebay, but at the moment, the exchange rate makes supplies from the USA very cheap. If you go to the specialist supplier Powerstream, then choose Battery Chargers from the list at the left, then choose Lead Acid Chargers, you can scroll down and see two suitable ones. The first very cheap one is heavy and will cost a lot in postage, so you might prefer the smart charger instead.

At the checkout stage, the postage cost is set at the highest rate service, so alter that, choosing either USPS standard or express rates which are reasonable and quite quick anyway.

Again, if it's definitely a 24 volt lead acid battery (SLA), you can also buy a suitable one from Electrodrive in the UK, tel 07974 723996 sales@electro-drive.co.uk.

Different bikes, or more specifically different batteries do require different chargers. I'm not familiar with that particular bike but the size of the battery does suggest it's a lead-acid (SLA) type, this type being the least fussy and therefore the most suitable for use with a generic SLA charger of the correct voltage. You do need to confirm that the battery is indeed a SLA type and determine the voltage though. Assuming 24V this would be suitable for slow charging. There's more here but they don't seem to have any stock, of anything!

most likely you can fix the charger with glue, its just the case that has cracked by the sounds of it.

Hi all

Thanks for your help - The guy sent me an e mail saying that the charger had broken after the bidding had finished and I won.

I'm awaiting make and model from the guy before I pay up or ...

Cheers

It's strange, but all week this guy has replied to my e mails immediately. Then he said that the charger was broken and would offer me a £17 reduction from £67 to £50 for this bike - I then e mailed him asking about make and model for a charger so I could see if it was worth the aggro. and he has not replied

JUst wondering if he knew at the beginning of the sale??? It was his first sale as well!!!

If you can't fix the charger, getting a replacement is easy enough. It doesn't have to be exact make and model. That offer of £17 off sounds ok to me.

I doubt you'll get a charger for £17, you'll probably have to pay at least twice that with P&P.

You should also consider whether the charger really is damaged, or whether it's non-existent, which may cast doubts on the bikes origin.

Hi Ian,

A good point, but it looks like the charger is there in some of the pics.

The charger is there, but as you say I can buy one for about £26 (Inc p and p) which means I need to get it knocked down to £40, plus he still has not e mailed me about make and model

I would have thought that if he has someone as eager as me and willing to pay, then why won't he contact me?

No prob Nick, just wanted to avoid you falling foul. I've deleted my mention that was above, so if you delete that "sorry" posting, I'll remove this mention and there'll be no trace left. :)

Difficult to know what to advise on this bike. The sellers reluctance to come up with details makes it seem they're not too reliable, so it might be best just to walk away.

Your £100 target mentioned on another thread is a tough one, but it's possible. I sold a very good e-bike for exactly that not too long ago, and I'm not the only realistic seller amongst all the greedy ones.

Well I gave him a deadline at 5pm today - No reply and he has put more stuff on e bay so I know he has got the e mails then.

I am grateful though for everyone's advice and I have this site on favs. as I think it's going to be very useful for me

Cheers and have a nice Christmas

Just noticed the bike back on for sale yesterday - My friend e mailed and asked him about the make and model and he said it was not on the bike???

Would that be correct? I would have presumed that any company worth their salt would do some advertising somewhere - Unless it's not Kosher???

We put a bid of £6.00 but to be honest is that worth it if I got it for that, or am I just kidding myself?

I have just won another bike as well, which is a stonker (But £180) but is well worth it

It's possible that it had no name or just a sticker originally Nick. It was obviously a very low grade Chinese job which would have sold for a very low price in the first place. Frankly, all these were never much good, slow and far too heavy for the folder role. The £6 may seem ok, but if you have to buy new batteries (very likely) and a new charger, you could end up paying way over what it's worth.
