a lot of talk about batteries lately and found this interesting reading.

http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries

if im reading this correct then it implies that to get best life out of battery key points are.

avoid fully discharging.
avoid fully charging (especially if not going to use)
avoid heat
avoid fast chargers

The interesting one is that for laptops running on mains with battery fitted is almost certainly seriously reducing battery life.

so whats the consensus here ?

I have software on my laptop which has an option to keep the charge at 50% when plugged in for this reason. The constant heat also kills laptop batteries.

Interesting reading, will save, and come back to it as a good reference guide.

Basically true, but the gains by doing this with e-bikes are too small to be worthwhile, especially since it so greatly reduces the range. The difference with e-bike batteries are that their inbuilt battery management and controller systems already stop charging before reaching the limit and also cut the power before they reach empty. These aren't by as large a margin as BU imply, but they are the most damaging parts of the charge state spectrum so give gain out of proportion to their size.

So just use and enjoy, leave your bike to do the worrying, for you'll gain nothing worthwhile by manually attempting to improve on what is already there.

You are so so right Flecc,

In my opinion the battery is designed to do what it is meant to do,providing that the BMS is true and in
correct working order.
