For my winglights a week ago and last night I hit a pothole. Nothing crazy, standard uk medium sized job.

And ping, off went my left light, slithered across the road.

And down a gutter drain
Oh no, that has never happened to me. I have only ever knocked one off accidently with my hand. Good news, it won't be broken and is waterproof. May be better buying the fixed version. Cheaper too!

I feel so sorry for you. Did you have them long enough to decide whether they were visible enough to make a difference in daylight?

For daylight use I don't find them an option as they are small and not very noticeable also car drivers won't be looking for a amber signal, though in poor light conditions or dark they produce a clear signal.

Sod's law that Kirstin, If the drain hasn't been cleaned there's a chance you may be able to retrieve it with a metal rod.

Go back to the drain with a steel rod and you will easily retrieve it. It has got a magnet on it.

Yes, excellent service from Cycl. One of mine was quickly draining batteries even when not in use. They immediately sent me a new pair and didn't want the others back.

I agree, sunny days and they are not nearly as effective as a solid hand signal. It's gloomy, dusky and dark where they are great

Had Cycl been anything less than as amazing as they are I suspect I would have given up on wnglights (certainly the magnetic version)

Which would have left me with two strong magnetic bar-ends to use - I hate to waste cool stuff J

Taking that idea alongside my personal view that winglights are not as useful in the day as a rear view mirror......I think a small mirror mounted to strong neo magnet may work quite nicely

I’ve just bought a piece of the proverbial bicycle mirror from Poundland. About 2.5 inch diameter mounted on plastic flower. Classy.

I’m going to strip out the mirror itself and, using a bit of epoxy putty, form a base containing a bunch of neo magnets i have left over from another project. The mirror can then stick on that. It will be very light indeed and not long (so leverage and weight should not overcome the strength of magnets I have). It should stick very strongly to the Winglight bar end

I’ll knock up a quick proof on concept and test on my way into work tomorrow. Probably a repurposed, convex blind spot mirror for cars would provide better viewing. Something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Summit-Convex-Blind-Mirror-Circular/dp/B00E22OYQI

Will report back !

WingLights are not just 'back up' direction indicators for our overcast days and long dark nights. They are visible to motorists just being an unlit amber end to the handlebars. Another use.... i entered a long old railway tunnel on our local cycle trail. The lights went out, it was pitch black in there. I put on both winglights. Hazard warning lights. Great for trailer towing.

Yes, good points, wasn't meaning to do them disservice..... Just thinking of ideas to use the bar end magnets

And only as I'm without the actual winglight

Newer mk2 mag versions it appears have stronger magnets and brighter leds for day light use.
This morning I realised I was missing my near side winglight so optimistically retraced the latter part of yesterdays ride and found it 7 miles away lying in the grass verge where I took a pic of the Outwood mill. The Kickstarter set I have the mags aren't to strong although they click into place nice but a slight knock and they are off, so I removed the batteries today and placed some extra magnets in the little recess under the batteries to give more holding power.

Great idea Nealh!

I've managed to lose another one. This time from the new set. (Totally my fault this time as I was walking my bike home after Xmas party and didn't notice it get knocked off )

I do love them but I think personally I'm too clumsy , unobservant for the mag versions

I'd buy the fixed next time

We are a like K  . I have been lucky so far, this is the 3rd time I've had to go and retrieve one I thought I would not find. As I use them on 2 bikes I was thinking when I do actually loose one for good I will get a fixed set and put one each on the n/s bar end and use the mag one on the o/s bar end.

It's a pity they don't sell singles for those who do loose one.

Another one bites the dust

Pinged off during ride ) speedbump/pothole combo)

And was promptly run over by a Volvo coming the other way (nothing they could or should have done obviously)

Tis now squished and bent :(

Fixed versions only from here on !

Just thought id update to say one I lost many months has turned up !

My eldest found it in the shrubbery whilst looking for a toy. It was half buried in earth under a plant. Been there loong time

Replaced the battery , wiped it down

Bingo ! Still working fine

So they are built to last if. you can hang onto the damn things !
