The motor that the the bike uses should be the main priority,so look for models using Bosch,Yamaha and Shimano as these are the most reliable and have high performance.

At the risk of appearing old-fashioned, I will attempt to answer the OP.

The bike has the NuVinci 360 gear hub - the percentage range is indicated by the model number - 360 - so you can compare that will other hubs.

The gearing on a NuVinci is constantly variable, so it doesn't have stepped changeable gears, but it is always 'in gear'.

The auto version alters its ratios automatically in response to cadence and pedal effort.

It's unusual for a bicycle, but works well enough once you get used to it.

There's also a twist grip manual over-ride, which also works fine.

There's no clicks, you just twist the grip a bit one way or the other to raise or lower the ratio.

The downside with the NuVinci is it saps power, which is why it hasn't caught on for pushbikes.

Losing a bit of power is less of a problem for an ebike, but the same motor on an ordinary hub geared ebike will still feel a lot more lively.

and mine lol, i think 50c dont like the fact that the impulse motors are kak and not fit for purpose and they all go wrong bar nigel01 bike.

prob why the main thread was locked yet the brexit one is still open on a ebike forum.

fact is they should make for an excellent small boat anchor ;)
