I am doing another conversion and want to fit a rack mounted battery so it can be left on and does not need to be carried around (usually they are hidden under panniers) but not sure what to get. It needs to have a plate on it so I can fit it on to the rear rack.

Here are a couple of options

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151698520560?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

No idea what cells and its an expensive pop if it fails after six months. Then there is this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111682689368?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Not really happy buying on ebay. Alternatively Woosh seem to sell them but not stocked in Cambridge store :(

A better options in that I can go and talk to them and check the actuall cells they have and some kind of warranty.

I would buy a ready built ladies/stepthrough ebike but want something I can build and maintain myself with a lighter weight motor then convert back to a normal bike of if I want to.

My daugghters EBCO 60 is finally giving up the ghost. Her health (she had M.E.) has really improved since she got the EBCO a few years ago to a point where all she needs is light assist. I think the halls/sensors on the EBCO are on the verge of failing. I have spent ages messing about with the connectors to make sure there is no short or they are not connecting properly but i think the fault is in the motor. I much prefer sensorless three phase wire motors. I spoke to them about a new motor but they wanted £370! The bike has served her well but is so heavy and not nice to pedal with no power. What I like is the rear rack battery which she leaves on. However its only 24v and nearly 4 years old now so I suspect that will fail soon too. The electrics are way too complicated, I want to fit a lighter assist, more free wheeling Tongxin with just a thumb throttle. I prefer to KISS :(

Jerry I was thinking you would do some work of art again on your brompton... ;)

But this time it's on a conventional bike.

Why don't you get a frame type battery? handling would be much better and you can even get a cheap one from me ;)

If I were you, I'd sell her bike and buy a new (or second hand) proper hybrid bike with a lightweight Q100H type motor.

It would be a proper upgrade and you can end up with a bike that is light enough to pedal even without power.

Thanks for the reply cwah. I want a battery that can be left on the bike those frame mounted batteries are too obvious and in Cambridge it will be stolen if left on the bike. Not worth selling its pretty much end of life though I can use it for parts Nexus 8, good rims, brand new 700c Marathon Plus tires.

On her EBCO 60 the battery is covered by paniers and she has never had any problems with it being messed with and no one has tried to remove it.

she like the style of the EBCO 60 so was thinking of a donor bike something like this

http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/hybrid-bikes-and-classic-bikes/pendleton-somerby-limited-edition-hybrid-bike-mint#tab3

Easy to put on one of my simple Tongxin/throttle setups on and really light to pedal without assist.

An alternative would be to buy a 80s 531 frame like this (replacing with upright bars) but not sure I could be bothered to strip and rebuild it all. Much less attractive to steal though.

Hi Jerry

I can offer you a 10A battery, like the one we fit to the Petite, for £200 plus £12 carriage but seeing that its you I could perhaps be persuaded to throw in the rack for free. I do need to check the rack fittings however as the last time our supplier sent them the design changed very slightly and it was not a snug fit. Give me a call Monday or Tuesday if its an option.

Thanks for that link Dave that looks neat :)

I would kinda prefer to get it quicker and have access to someone in the UK though.

dear all, i have a woosh santa ana, the battery rack has disintegrated after too many pothole hits (alloy has broken in several places), is there an affordable steel version? if not does anyone know of an alloy version that doesn't have to come from china? woosh doesnt have any in stock and mine is beyond repair. many thanks
Would this one fit? http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=371435654915&alt=web

Needs modification because parts missing but if you're handy you could do it (or your lbs person could)

many thanks, unfortunately i missed the ebay one, i just returned form work away and haven't had chance to do pic, but basically the welds have separated, i do live in a terrible area for potholes, i think i'll try to hack an ordinary rack I've got - does anyone have any creative ideas for mounting a rack battery differently? I was thinking of vertical - a bit like some old giant lafree hub drive models ive seen on-line?

No the ebay one is still for sale. I don't know if it will fit but it's a business seller so you have 14 (or 30??) days after it arrives to let him know you'd like to send it back and he has to refund you in full.

If the ebay rack is no good, you could also put an ad in the 'wanted' section of the forum - likewise on Endless Sphere (taking care to state your location as most of them are in America).
many thanks, I emailed seller, unfortunately rack has wrong dimensions. apologies all for making this epic - but it occurred to me that many aluminium bike frames are epoxied together - does anyone know what they use?

you need to lash the pieces together then paint the wire with epoxy resin to waterproof the repair and make it permanent. I use cheap pound shop two part epoxy glue.

Something like this will do the job:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-PACK-Epoxy-Resin-Glue-Adhesive-Kit-Repair-Metal-Ceramic-Rubber-Glass-Plastic-/141638788593
many thanks, that definitely looks worth trying!
