RED/YELLOW/GREEN PHASE WIRES TO MOTOR

Regards to a direct drive hob motor if you get the combination wires wrong way around, can it damage the motor and controller? Because I've read that people have made up to 6 or more attempts before getting the combination spot on. Also can a three phase motor by fault still run for some time on two phase? If that makes any sense.

It's only a problem with a hall sensor motor. No damage will be done if you're gentle on the throttle until you get it running smoothly, but if you give full throttle when the motor doesn't turn, something will smoke or pop.
