Hi,

I'm looking to buy rim and spokes to lace my Q128 (which finally arrived) and looking for recommendations for sources of reasonably priced components.

I need a 26"x25mm(external), 36H double-skinned black rim and 36x 212mm 14/13g black spokes and nipples.

What and where do you guys buy?

Cheers, njs

Ebay.
I use the exal rims and get spokes from one of the uk vendors on their, good enough for all my needs.

Have you found a UK supplier for Exal rims?

My search only turns up German suppliers where the postage doubles the cost.

And Halo spokes seem to be a good price on Ebay, but I yet to find a supplier offering 212mm :(

You need to know the rim erd before you buy spokes.

Where does 212mm come from. If you don't have a rim yet, you can't know the spoke length.
I fed the published ERD of an appropriate Alex rim into the spoke calculator to get a feel of the required length. (I appreciate that published ERD may be inaccurate; and that ERD will vary with the profile shape of the chosen rim; but the difference will be 5mm or 10mm either way.)

What came out of it was that lots of the Ebay spoke sellers that have a drop down for selecting the length, tend to list sizes up to around 180mm, then there is a jump up to around 240mm, with nothing in between.

I assume this reflects the jump between 24" and 26"+++ standard rim /standard hub combinations; which leaves me looking for something in the gap.

It seems to be a problem peculiar to mini/geared hub builds -- the bigger DD hubs probably work well with the 'standard' 24" spoke sizes -- so as there are many here using Qute and other mini-hubs, I thought sourcing would be a solved problem.

I have 212mm spokes from ebay, just a case of various searches to find the right seller. I think I found a seller where I chose the length I needed.

Excellent chap (ryanbuildswheels) he sold me a bag of hex head brass nipples for my last wheel build (a tandem not ebike admittedly) for a good price. They were excellent quality - you can get a more torque on the spoke/nipple with no risk of damage
