What happens if you have a 48v motor and you run it on a 36v battery?
I ask because I'm considering a 48v Lead acid install BUT i would like to convert to a Li ion battery or LiPo later.

:D

It will run slow and depending on the controller (dual or multi voltage support) it may hit Low Voltage cutoff and stop the motor....

ahh

This sounds bad - so I am better off going for a 36v setup initally:confused:

Yes, a motor is wound with a particular RPM in mind for a certain voltage. If you under volt it, it will not run at the design RPM. However, if you overvolt it (within reason and limit current) it will run faster and give more power.
