Ultra motor/fast4ward 24v/chain guard issue

I'm not a fan of chain guards. I rode home tonight in the pelting down rain having to listen to a squeaky, grungy, scrapy kind of noise. I wasn't going to stop not in this rain ...I removed the chain guard tonight expecting to find a twig or similar obstruction. Nothing. This is was was making the noise:

Got the pliers on it and bent it well out the way:

I will not be refitting the chain guard and will be looking to remove the troublesome stay as it could easily happen again.

I do like a chainguard but think it essential that the mounting stays are a strong tensile material that springs back to the original position when deflected. The close fitting top guard on my Q-bike is mounted this way and despite numerous knocks, and a huge chainring gives no trouble.
