    Bickerton Portable Folding Bike

Yes, very true CPG, I quite agree, Bromptons are superb bikes but unfortunately they're very "trendy" too, so have become something of a cult possession, or even fashion accessory, for many people. A few years back, I bought a "Merc" which was a Chinese copy of the Brompton. Not just a poor...

    Bickerton Portable Folding Bike

I had a Bickerton back in the 1980's when the choice of lightweight folding bikes was far more restricted. I remember the problem I had was the handlebar clamp on the headstock. Because of the 2ft upward extension of the "cow horn" handlebars there was a considerable leverage on that clamp...

    Inner Tube problem

Before I found out about Schwalbe Marathons, I used puncture resistant tape liners on non kevlar road tyres on my mountain bike. I did about a 500 miles on them with no problems. I did chamfer the ends though, as I'd read about on the web. People had said the 2mm step does sometimes pinch. I...

Me again ! 20" high rpm front wheel 250/350w

Ok, thanks Dave & Pat. I tried online chat, and did get confirmation they were in stock. I'm a born pessimist I'm afraid, Sod's law so often prevails in my case ! Fingers crossed now that it might not attract too much duty and the rather large "administration" charge to collect it. Maybe the...

Me again ! 20" high rpm front wheel 250/350w

This is getting complicated now, so I'd best start a new thread or my geriatric IQ won't be able to cope. I recently posted another thread outlining my ambition to motorise my Burley recumbent, and got lot's of helpful ideas and suggestions. I've ended up going with one of Dave's MXUS rear...

    Batteries and Frosty Rides

You don't think I'd take a photograph of it before it was tidied up ? Can't get the door open most of the time....

    Batteries and Frosty Rides

My shed's got more than Dulux in it though.... more damn bikes.... (so she says)

    Batteries and Frosty Rides

Thanks Flecc, that's ok then, I've always recharged immediately after returning from rides anyway, as per other advice I'd heard somewhere. An interesting quandary there though about the low explosion risk. To keep them in a wooden shed with paint tins etc., or in the house !

    Batteries and Frosty Rides

Yes, very useful to know these things, especially for improving the life of this part of electric bikes, probably the most expensive ongoing cost. It's certainly got me thinking. I have a pair of 36v 10ah Lithium Ion packs in the aluminum carrier cases with the integral rear light on the...

20" front wheel hub motor, gearing questions !

Well they certainly run a very speedy reply service ! The price is for the hub only, no spokes, no rim. I still don't know the cost of having a local bike shop lace one up into a 20" rim, or whether the correct specialist spokes may be difficult to get, and whether they would know the correct...

20" front wheel hub motor, gearing questions !

That looks ideal for me, £85 delivered, so the additional customs and vat would not be too high either. It's not too clear whether it includes lacing into the wheel as well though. I've sent a question to Jane to find out. I've not used Aliexpress before, are they safe ? A Google search...

20" front wheel hub motor, gearing questions !

Blast ! I was afraid of that.... 13 or 14 mph, that would take me back to my Powabyke days, when it was quicker to pedal. Thanks for the answers on the other points, I think if I go for a 20" front wheel I'll stay with a 100mm wide motor then, I don't want to bend the forks because the idea...

20" front wheel hub motor, gearing questions !

Coming back on Jerry's suggestion, I've found a UK based ebay seller who has complete 20" front wheels with a very similar motor at £215 delivered, with no tax or duty to pay. They even have the controller etc., everything except the battery and charger, which I don't need. Electric bike kit...

20" front wheel hub motor, gearing questions !

No problem Mike, all suggestions gratefully accepted. I was just worried in case I'd done something wrong to cause the shipping to be so much higher. d8veh, yes I can see your point, a 26" rear wheel would remove the danger of ending up with a 201rpm motor in a 20" rim. It makes better...

20" front wheel hub motor, gearing questions !

I'm confused with the BMS website again ! All things considered, my best and most adaptable option was this 350watt 328rpm BPM motor already fitted in a 20" rim. I can't find anything like that price of £140 delivered on the BMS website though. The BPM 36V350W Front Driving E-Bike Motor...

20" front wheel hub motor, gearing questions !

Robf, Thanks for the cyclechat post link, quite a bargain for £1500 for the whole lot, but as the repliers have said, few people would want everything, except maybe a dealer. Jerry, yes, £900 would be cheap, but I think it might go much higher. The seller says it was 9k new. A bit silly with...

20" front wheel hub motor, gearing questions !

Yes very confusing, thanks for putting me straight Mike. Getting it in the wheel for that price certainly makes it really attractive. No, the photo is deceptive, the front forks are actually 100mm between dropouts. I'm now mulling over the choice, front or back, but with BMS 500w 36v as...

20" front wheel hub motor, gearing questions !

I've now explored some of the suggestions (thanks). The BMS 350 watt, 328 rpm BPM 20" front wheel at £140 delivered is certainly one favourite. ...thanks for the offer of help with the wheel building Jerry, but I live in North East Norfolk, so about 120 miles away. The 201rpm Q100c...

20" front wheel hub motor, gearing questions !

Thanks everyone for the very rapid and helpful replies. I'm now working my way through them and the links, but one quick question, how much does it cost to get a hub motor mounted into a 20" alloy front wheel, labour and parts ?

20" front wheel hub motor, gearing questions !

Having had mixed successes so far, I'm now thinking of electrifying my recumbent bike. It's a long wheel base Burley Limbo, with a 20" front wheel and 26" rear wheel. I realise the traction on the front wheel will be much less than the rear as it has so little weight on it. Never the less, I...
