All the business on Lithium life-span

I'm still not sure I understand. When you speak of "fully charged", that's not some kind of fixed point. It depends entirely on the voltage applied. For the purpose of e-bikes, it's been declared (pretty much arbitarily) that "100% fully charged" is based on the storage achieved by 4.20volts...

    Cyclamatic or 8Fun kit

The impression I have of my Foldaway model is pretty good (though I've still only done a pitiful number of miles!). But a lot of things have come loose in the first um ... 40 miles. Including the spokes of the back wheel.

    For this icy weather

I'd not worry about the extra width - you can see it in your mirrors and most of the time it's not any kind of restriction. If you plan to put the cycle on the roof, be aware the wind resistance rises exponentially, cutting 20mph or more from your top speed and doing real harm to your fuel...

    Truing the wheels

First of all, everyone who reads this need a cycle stand that raises the machine to eye-level (mine is the Park Tool Home Mechanic Repair Stand which is boringly missing the tray that takes your tools and parts). Secondly you need a spoke key. Thirdly, you need to fix the up'n'down...

    Where Do You Live V2.0

PE27 - from where you can take the fabulous Guided Bus with your Cyclamatic Foldaway (which I will try presently). Or go North or South or East or West ... I was once assured there are not many places you can do that from but I'm not entirely convinced, you can do it from Cambridge as well.

Battery Lithium Recycling may be here one day?

I don't think that's a problem with domestic refuse! Other than I suspect they burn most of the plastic and wood that they recover and there's a lot of NIMBYism about concerning incinerators.

Breathing life back into Lead Acid batteries

There were white tablets around in the 80s one could add to dying batteries and I was using them in a previous life. I'm pretty sure they worked somewhat. But SLAs lead-acids these days are all sealed (that's what the S stands for!). My 2001 car battery is sealed but still going strong.

Battery Lithium Recycling may be here one day?

The open day at the re-cycling plant (near Waterbeach, Cambs, well worth while if you have a chance) was quite odd, the presenters seemed helpful and trustworthy but not very knowledgable. There was no access by us to the actual sorting machines or anything, just two windows, one of which...

All the business on Lithium life-span

Got it. The charger that came with this machine is a precision instrument, but only as regards producing a dependably constant voltage wouldn't can't damage the cells even if the BMS went to open circuit. (Not a desirable situation however, the cells tend to damage each other). They might...

    Radio Prog Alert!

At the risk of making myself enduringly unpopular with my fellow car-drivers, we don't have zebra crossings because pedestrians were considerate and patient and intelligent. We have them because pedestrians were selfish and impatient - in fact, they were often downright stupid.

Battery Lithium Recycling may be here one day?

Strange it's taken so long ... this whole re-cycling business is peculiar and apparently only the Germans can do it. I've been to the open day at one of these plants and learned nothing whatsoever!

All the business on Lithium life-span

Ah, I'm obviously confused with which does what. This is what the Battery University is claiming: From the article at How to Prolong Lithium-based Batteries - Battery University ... or rather, they would be claiming a much better life from charging at 4.05 volts if their graph...

    BMS Battery conversion kit

Another example - if you overstay your ticket at the pay and display of a certain Council you're invited to pay by card. In very small letters it says "Debit Card only". If you ignore the warning and pay the £20 by Credit card, the system will apparently accept your money - but fail to...

All the business on Lithium life-span

The charger to my nominal 24V battery claims to deliver 29.4v (ie 4.2v/cell, the figure used by this BU boffin who thinks the manufacturers are parsimonious with information). My ancient Fluke almost agrees, it says that the BMS delivers 29.45 volts. So does the sophisticated BMS electronics...

    Weight versus cost.

The problem I had was the tube bursting near the valve after I invested in a better foot pump which encouraged me to take all tyres to the maximum pressure. It happened twice on the back wheel of my Raleigh Oakland and at first I blamed the tube. After the second time I blamed the pressure...

Cyclamatic is new and dying, help!

Yes it did thanks (well, I say that, only tested with a cycle down the hall so far!) I've never had spokes come undone either - but then, on the bigger wheels of regular bicycles they're under proper tension. It seemed to me possible that the sliding surface of a non-corroding stainless steel...

    Radio Prog Alert!

The Telegraph had this story yesterday, despite it having happened sometime last year (April or earlier?). The police discuss it here: PC Stout vs Cyclist - UKPOLICEONLINE Discussion Forum - Page 2 and eventually satisfy themselves (and me) that a cycle is a vehicle under the Road Traffic Act...

All the business on Lithium life-span

The author of this article doesn't have a lot of respect for his suppliers - but he also makes some very bold and potentially very useful statements about prolonging battery life - should we trust what he says? How to Prolong Lithium-based Batteries - Battery University ... Lithium-ion...

Cyclamatic is new and dying, help!

Thankyou d8veh and Fordulike, both your comments were helpful and I applied my little spoke key to miraculous success. I've given every spoke a 1/4 turn tighten up and some of them needed as much as one whole turn. My excuse is that, being the wheels on the Foldaway are small (20") and the...

Cyclamatic is new and dying, help!

Hi guys - I hope one of you can help. I'm very happy with the Cyclamatic Foldaway I bought for Xmas (it's for leisure, so only some 40 miles covered so far). It came from Sports HQ who may, if I'm lucky and judging by previous experience, accept a not-too-many-questions asked return if I...
