suggestions for simple to use cycle route/road planner please

Although the CycleStreets user interface leaves something to be desired, the routing is as good as it gets. IMO, you should stick with it and in time you'll grow to love it.

    Comparing lights

Perhaps I will have to revisit the camera settings originally specified. There is certainly scope to use a higher exposure value while still being able to render low amounts of ambient light as darkness. When I originally tested it out, I used a 36W LED light source, so might have over estimated...

    Comparing lights

Still doesn't help the 'difficulty with comparisons' situation that I'm trying to address, does it though? It almost seems that you don't want to be able to compare your overpriced light source with any other, but I guess it's an expensive truth. Any constructive criticism that you can offer is...

    Comparing lights

Photography is an art form (well, part art, part science). It's not complicated though. If your camera supports manual exposures, it shouldn't take longer than 10-15 seconds to select the correct parameters.

    Comparing lights

Have you tried it? Don't write off the idea too quickly! I forgot to say in my initial post that 'darkness' will be required. An exposure value was chosen that will render your average streetlight in near darkness (nothing set in stone, so this can be changed if we need to do so), so unless you...

    Comparing lights

A topic of discussion that crops up regularly is that of lights. There is such a bewildering variety available and new lights seem to appear on the market weekly. Now, we all know that manufacturers/retailers claims of lighting power varies from truthful to outright deceitful, so unless you have...

I might have misunderstood what you are trying to do. Can you post a link to the light you are talking about?

    The new best headlight

I stopped dicking about with secondary battery packs a couple of years ago and now run all my accessories from my main pack. I'd advise the same if you are able to do so. I dont know anything about that seller, so cannot comment on those cells. Assuming they are authentic, they'll be good for...

You're missing the point and it's leading you to compare apples with oranges. How many cars did you see in that time?

When was the last time you saw a scene like in the photo posted above in the UK? I never have.

Surprising how quick these Brexit price rises have happened

I completely agree with you there, but not because of prices. When you look at the lower end of the market, it is almost impossible to beat the ready made offerings on VFM.

Surprising how quick these Brexit price rises have happened

You may think that you see a lot of bikes in the UK, but they're only a tiny fraction of those in other parts of Europe. This is due to the type of cyclist we tend to have in the UK. We are largely sporting & thrillseeker cyclists, but utility is where the real money is...

Surprising how quick these Brexit price rises have happened

Nonsense. Ebikes haven't taken off in the UK simply because we're not a cycling nation. On the continent where government policy tends to be much more cycle friendly, ebike sales are gaining a larger market share year after year.

Surprising how quick these Brexit price rises have happened

IMO, a subsection of members are being very unfair in regards to the recent price rises. Businesses are not charities. If there is a cost to pay, it will ultimately have to be passed on to the buyer. If it wasn't, you shouldn't expect to get support or service on your purchase for very long due...

    Speed matters

That looks like a hub spacer used to increase clearance between the disc caliper and motor. They're usually required with DD hub motors due to their size and flat profile causing high likelihood of clearance issues, but I can't think why you'd need one on a small geared hub motor. I think you...
