    The keiren

I watched this for the first time yesterday and found it really exciting. I can't however understand the race format. Why is there a need for a pace bike for six laps when all the action happens in the final lap or two after the pace bike has left?

    Hiya folks, lightweight ebike options

It weighs about 20kg. Why's this better than any of the other 20kg bikes mentioned already?

Trying to source a wide wheel rim.

Thanks for the link. They seem to offer a good range, but don't offer anything over 21mm wide in a 26" wheel.

Trying to source a wide wheel rim.

Thanks for the heads-up. It's good to know I've got the option of a competant local wheel builder if I need it. I'm not adverse to building a wheel myself (this would be my first), but I'd prefer one ready built depending on the cost.

Trying to source a wide wheel rim.

Possibly. The Continental Diesel has been my front tyre of choice for the last four years. They're great all-round freeride tyres and I've got a couple more stashed, so don't plan on changing for another any time soon. The last wheel I satisfactorily ran them on was 22mm (old bike w/rim...

Trying to source a wide wheel rim.

Additional requirements: Disc hub. Current wheel has QR skewer, but I'd also consider a solid axle.

Trying to source a wide wheel rim.

I'm currently running a 559x62 (26”) tyre on an 18mm wheel rim and the result is less than perfect. As you can probably guess, the tyre can get pretty squirmy and high speed cornering is a little hair-raising. I'm after a wide front wheel (fully built wheel if possible) built on something like...

    puctures

I couldn't imagine taking a bike anywhere to get a puncture repaired. Why not DIY? You dont even have to remove the wheel. Being able to fix a punctured tube is a great skill to have and it only gets easier with each one repaired.

    Speed matters

D8, what's the matter with you? Lighten up a bit fellow! I guess it was an 'insult' in a jovial, sort of way. Should I have used a smiley or something? Considering I then went on to say I once did the exact same thing myself, it can hardly be taken as malicious.

    Speed matters

Sounds like they performed pretty well to me. Shame about the tool operating them though. I did exactly the same thing when I was 11 the first time I had a go on my neighbours brand new US import BMX and spent the whole of the summer holidays with a scabby nose and chin.

    Speed matters

^+1 Even cable actuated V-brakes can give fantastic stopping performance.... until the wheel rim gets wet. I too favour hydraulic discs for reasons pointed out above. Add to this some strong DD regen and it doesn't get much better.

What do you think of my new bike-rack bag?

"DANGER, HIGH VOLTAGE! DO NOT TOUCH Not only will this kill you, it will hurt the entire time you're dying."

    Strange disc brake phenomenon

The replacement pads are organic, but I'm pretty sure the old ones were too. I'm still not sure what was wrong with the old pads, but after I'd remove the glaze they'd glaze over again after just a few braking attempts. Not too worried about accelerated wear of the new pads since regen means...

    Strange disc brake phenomenon

Just thought I would update this thread for completeness sake. I ended up purchasing two sets of replacement pads, but didn't do anything with them for weeks. Having now replaced the old pads and carried out a bedding in procedure, the brakes are back to how they should be and now give great...

Fast electric bike LANERI FALCON 250L

Maybe at regular "bike speeds", but once you're doing 30mph+, effective aero mods can make an incredible difference. Also, they are usually cheaper than an equivalent weight reduction on a cost/performance basis.

Fast electric bike LANERI FALCON 250L

Having ripped into this bike earlier on in the day, I've been thinking about it throughout the afternoon. I think I was initially too quick to judge it. Don't get me wrong, I still think that it looks bloody awful (maybe it would look better in black – an “if Batman rode a bike....” sort of...

Fast electric bike LANERI FALCON 250L

Oh my, that thing is hideous and it stands out even more than a Stealth Bomber MX style frame. I don't believe anyone could ride it without looking like a massive cock.

Post office doesn't like my battery!

^ +1 Anytime I order anything even remotely dangerous or risky, chances are it'll be sent using APC.

Are ebikes worth the price tag?

Most people looking for a 'toy', will come to the conclusion that electric bikes are often overpriced. For those who require a degree of utility from their bike and are able to do some basic math, can quickly see that electric bikes represent value when comparing to other alternatives.

    Thicko arrived...

Has the fork broken yet? EDIT: Sorry, I'm just being a bit of a tool. Seriously though, do you have a torque arm installed? If not, the fork dropouts won't last an hour and dental work ain't cheap.
