Converting existing bike vs buying new?

I think that you might be a prime candidate for a DD hub motor build, but you need to get your expectations straight. You're looking at around a £1200+ budget and you can forget 'lightweight'. It'll likely weigh 30kg+ if you want a decent range, possibly closer to 40kg. What type of riding do...

Converting existing bike vs buying new?

How fast is "fast"? Or do you mean that you want quick acceleration?

    Could this be the future?

With the right type of battery, you can recharge in 5-6 minutes, so hydrogen is not unique in that sense. EDIT: Also, the fuel cell isn't powerful enough to power the bike, but only charge the (tiny) battery. IMO, this solution creates more problems than it solves.

    ebike law changes coming....

Just a thought..... Has anyone ever managed to sustain that sort of top speed for 90mins? Not easy unless you have 30 miles of empty, open road. I guess it depends on what "running tuned" means.

    Could this be the future?

No, electricity can be micro generated by each and every one of us with a choice of renewables nowadays. Energy freedom should be our number one goal with the opportunity we currently have to alter our supply from non-renewables.

    Could this be the future?

Nope, hydrogen has no place in the future of the EV. Anything that puts sole control of the power source in the hands of a third party is a no-no.

    Equifax

Do those of you who believe in the (false) adage "nothing to hide, nothing to fear", hang curtains or blinds in your windows? If so, what's your reason for doing so?

UK or China for E-bike Kit

Battery from the UK. Everything else from China if I am prepared to wait.

It depends on who the courier is, but I'd assume roughly a 25% VAT, duty and handling charge.

non pneumatic tyres - good investment?

There's always have the option of buying larger patches, or using more than one on a repair. The most I've used on a single puncture is three, but that was a 1.5" tear in the tube. I do accept that there's a point where it does become easier to just swap the tube out though, although there's...

non pneumatic tyres - good investment?

You don't have to remove a wheel to repair a puncture. Simply remove one side of the tyre bead from the wheel and work through this opening. Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to fix.

non pneumatic tyres - good investment?

.....or, learn puncture repair and gain a skill for life. Face your fear!

non pneumatic tyres - good investment?

This. Forces are transferred from the ground to the whole wheel much more uniformly with pneumatic tyres, where solid tyres concentrate forces from the ground to a specific area of the wheel.

Bullet connectors - Bafang mid drives

I think they ARE 4mm automotive (low) grade bullets, but they are so crap that poor tolerances can allow lots of movement between mated connectors. Best off swapping them for 4mm RC bullets at the first sign of trouble.

    Battery lock

Didn't cwah have a large 18650 pack stolen from his Dahon while left locked up? That's the only one I remember and I've been here since 2012.

arrgh!! wrong motor - now what?

It makes the mind boggle, especially when "getting it right" is often so much easier. If quoted "xyzRPM @ 36V", it should be at 36V, not a fully charged nominal 36V, which is 42V, which is where I suspect where the discrepancy arises from.

arrgh!! wrong motor - now what?

How can they publish even 'nominal' ratings that on closer inspection, appear to be 20% out? I hate motor specs published in RPM at an arbitrary voltage. It can be misleading to the uninformed and leads people into thinking there's such thing as a 24V, 36V or 48V motor. It makes it even worse...

arrgh!! wrong motor - now what?

This is probably covering old ground, but are they EXACTLY the same though?: 201/36=5.58Kv 328/48=6.83Kv Calculations above show that the 201RPM@36V motor is wound about 20% slower than the 328RPM@48V. Or us it a case of inaccurate motor specs from BMS and they are in fact the same motor?

    Torque Arm fastener help

I've not had much luck with Mikalor hose clamps in the past and have had a few sheer on me from over-tightening. I've had no problem with GENUINE Jubilee Clips though. They seem to be able to take much more clamping force than Mikalors and all other cheap knock-offs. Here's where I purchased...
