    Small Rear Xiongda Motor

That's incredible! I can't believe how stealthy that install is. How much torque do you think can be reliably generated by this motor?

Imagine if he hadn't though... I'm pretty sure if that were the case he'd have been glad for the info.

Help us build a better Ebike battery

No reason you can't have both. I'm currently charging a 2752kWh battery in around an hour. It could be charged even quicker, but my charger is already drawing 3000W from a single household socket, so it would require multiple phases for more power.

    Noob Here!

Required, no. Worthwhile, yes. The salient point is that running a DD on anything less than 2000W would give less torque than can be achieved from one of the larger geared hub motors, or a mid-drive running on substantially less power.

    Noob Here!

Direct drive motors get a hard time on here, so I'd like to provide some balance. Direct drive motors are only worthwhile when you give them lots of power. Giving them anything less than 2000W is pointless IMO. This requires a powerful battery and a big, high amperage controller, which would...

    who's bike is that?

The last few instances of bike fires I have seen have all involved 18650 cells, supposedly one of the 'safer' types of lithium cell. I think that this goes to show that there are more important factors to consider than just cell format where battery safety is concerned.

I'd say that unless doctored, the mirror shows a convex reflection.

FOR SALE: 3pcs Eltek Flatpack2 HE 48V 3000W Power Supplies (1st gen w/ silver fascia)

Assuming you are referring to Multistar lipo packs, yes, 56A is a 3.5C charge rate and although within published specs, IMO is too high a charge rate for them.

FOR SALE: 3pcs Eltek Flatpack2 HE 48V 3000W Power Supplies (1st gen w/ silver fascia)

Yes, I can program these supplies to 50V, then they will behave like any other 50V CC/CV power supply. Just to clarify a couple of points: These are 3000W supplies that will output about 56A. This output current cannot be permanently reprogrammed in the same way as voltage can. Current...

FOR SALE: 3pcs Eltek Flatpack2 HE 48V 3000W Power Supplies (1st gen w/ silver fascia)

To be honest, reprogramming these supplies is the easy part. Working out a solid method to interface with the DC outputs and the huge currents involved is the hard bit.

FOR SALE: 3pcs Eltek Flatpack2 HE 48V 3000W Power Supplies (1st gen w/ silver fascia)

Reprogramming these chargers is my first and only experience of CANBUS programming. I never read a basic tutorial before attempting it - just ordered the necessary hardware (link below) and jumped straight in trying to decipher the instructions on Endless Sphere with the CANBUS software open on...

FOR SALE: 3pcs Eltek Flatpack2 HE 48V 3000W Power Supplies (1st gen w/ silver fascia) I have three Flatpack2 HE 3000W power supplies in almost new condition. They were originally purchased for use in redundant servers and other than a power-up test every six months, they have never been used...

Of all the times to malfunction..

I'd choose the loudest, most obnoxious tone it has to offer and use it as my secondary 'bell'. IMO, if a ped can't hear a regular bell for whatever reason, your siren is then fair game. I use a single tone 12V motorbike horn as a secondary warning and it always gets heard, even by those inside...

Of all the times to malfunction..

Yeah, that siren is way to aggressive to use as your first warning signal on a shared path - I'd think you were a complete a**hole if you directed that at me. Get yourself a bell and then by all means use the siren as a secondary measure if the bell isn't heard.

What cargo bike tyre to buy?

Maybe I'm just a little old fashioned, but I think that you can't beat a traditional puncture repair kit for repairing punctures in a hub motor wheel. No need to remove the wheel and you can be back on the road in 10 mins.
