    Traction problem with Big Bear

I fail to see the point of a dual motor setup that cannot be operated as 2WD. The only benefit would be redundancy, which might be desirable on a long distance tourer. With such a setup you'll always prefer to use the rear motor anyway. 'Legal' is overrated. Give each motor its own controller...

    Continental Tyres Undersize?

Tyre width changes with the width of the wheel rim. A narrow rim will give a narrower, taller, rounder tyre profile, where a wide rim will give a wider, lower, flatter profile. That aside, I used to run Continental Diesel 2.5" freeride tyres that only measured 2.3", so maybe Continental tend to...

    Not street legal!

"Better" at what? Quite simply, it's all about suitability. There's a reason why almost anyone that builds a high power street bike opts for a large, heavy direct drive motor. Although they might have a lower Kt rating, they are capable of more torque than a 250W geared motor by an order of...

    impulse 2 motor, less power

Apologies, my knowledge on the matter of this bike ends there. I know that there have been a lot of issues with the Impulse 2 motor, which you can read more about in the following thread: http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/index.php?threads/24290/ I'm sure somebody else will be along to advise...

    impulse 2 motor, less power

Which retailer? The one you purchased it from and who carried out the repair? They didn't need to measure it. They just keyed in a new number and reprogrammed it.

    impulse 2 motor, less power

The answer has already been provided in the first reply. When your motor was replaced, a lower power limit was programmed at the same time to decrease the likelihood of it failing again. IMO, this is a completely underhand move and one that would drive me to obtain a refund, since the bike is is...

    Not street legal!

Just to clarify, is that a maximum or minimum allowance of a 2 degree Kelvin variation in temperature? My suspicion is that it is a maximum allowance, since I think that the motor rating part of EN15194 was defined in order to stop manufacturers overrating their motors due to a trend of...

16 mph Scooter on hotUKdeals £203

The throttle on this scooter doesn't work from a standstill and requires you to scoot with your foot to launch before it becomes active. The scooter also appears to meet most of the pedelec requirements and although it doesn't feature pedals, I'd say it otherwise functions within the spirit of...

Best Motor Size to Avoid Burning Out?

Gears do fail if you load them hard enough. I've destroyed the gears in three hub motors - 2x Bafang SWXH's and 1x Q128. Both the SWXH's were operating at around 1500W (melted old non-composite gears, multiple times) and the Q128 at just under 2000W (stripped gears under heavy load). If you run...

How much power would i theoretically need?

There are five ways to increase your top speed: 1) Increase voltage. 2) Swap the motor for a faster wind. 3) Swap the controller for one that features field weakening. 4) Increase your gearing (larger wheel size with a hub motor). 5) Pedal harder. The first four methods will increase the...

Do you think my bike can handle this journey?

Funnily enough, I built my 'everyday' ebike with doing the reverse in mind - Bath to London and probably the return journey a couple of days later. However, life got in the way and I'm now the owner of (don't worry, no funny business going on here, they are mine) two small children. I'm still...

TWO YEAR OLD GOOD BATTERY NOT IN USE.

It's unlikely that your battery contains enough energy to run even a small heater for more than 15 minutes, so probably not worth it.

    Conversion Kit for Kona Ute

An ideal bike for what purpose? What type of riding do you plan on using it for? How much do you weigh? How fast do you want to go? How much range do you need?

    Schwalbe Marathon Plus

IMO, Maxxis make the best bike tyres, although they don't have any offering to match the puncture protection of the MP. Since my type of riding has changed dramatically over the last year, I recently switched from full off road tyres to 2.5" treaded street tyres (Maxxis Holy Rollers) and I...

Are Amazon and E-Bay too big for HMRC to tackle.

EBay UK have been registered in the UK since August 2017 and now charge (and pass on to the treasury) 20% VAT on all fees. I'm not sure whether the change was as a result of wider political pressure, or strategic maneuvering with an eye on future Brexit.

    independent e bike technician

It's hard to justify this argument, since a warranty is paid for up front as part of the purchase price, especially when it comes to the big name brands. On the other hand, when you buy direct from China for a fraction of the cost, you accept a lack of backup from the retailer.

Converting existing bike vs buying new?

All legal arguments aside, building an ebike as a moped alternative can be done, but IMO, is not a good idea for a first build. Once you get over 30mph, you need to think more 'motorcycle safety' than 'bike safety'. One wrong move and you can end up DEAD. Hell, you can even end up dead in your...

Converting existing bike vs buying new?

Possibly not if he wants a decent range at those sort of speeds.

    Mini Disaster

TBH, nylock nuts won't make much difference. You might want to try NordLock washers though if your nuts refuse to stay tight. I used to suffer the same running 80A + regenerative braking, but NordLocks solved it. You should also be using a torque arm, preferably two.
