    schwinn bike on e-bay 320211979619

Well spotted, Keith I think they are being optimistic thinking someone will bid £1150 for it. I'd expect someone paying that much on eBay to do some research - and they wouldn't like what they found out!

    SLA batttery delivering high current

It only blows fuses when it is connected to something. Indeed when it is connected to something it always blows a fuse. Thinking about it, it is behaving as if the thing it is connected to (ie bike controller or charger) is completing a short circuit, or if the connectors short when they are...

    SLA batttery delivering high current

Thanks Flecc, As you say it seems odd. I don't think I'll risk using that battery again!

    SLA batttery delivering high current

I'm a bit mystified! Does anyone know if it is possible for an SLA battery to start spontaneously supplying high currents without them being demanded by an attached device? I bought a 36v charger for the SLA which I have been using as a test battery. On connecting the charger to my...

    Dolphin/Izip

Not to my taste either, but many do like the Bionx look so I imagine it will have its fans

    Dolphin/Izip

There's more info on the Izip site. Looks like it will launch in a couple of months time (in the US, not UK)

It's a long way home with no power.

I'd advise changing them straight away rather than waiting for punctures! My Kenda K-Shield tyres had a puncture after 160 miles but, like Ian's, were showing lots of wear with many cuts and embedded glass splinters and sharp stones from London streets. I would have changed mine sooner but...

    Charging SLAs how long

Depends on the charger, but if its 2 amp hours - which is typical - it would take about 5 hours. I assume from your question that you're not seeing this happen? SLA batteries don't like being completely flat so its possible they may have failed. Frank

    modding a 36v controller to 24v?

It might be possible but may require replacing components within the controller. However, I'd get a new controller. £8 + postage from an eBay seller

    A non-electric folding bike question

Good luck with them. If they do what you need then you've got a bargain! The most expensive bikes, whatever the price, are the ones that don't get used!

specialbikes' kit is actually a Tongxin motor - as is the Nano. The Tongxin is rated at 180w Frank

It's a long way home with no power.

In running through what the electric bikes I do/have owned are like without power, I actually forgot to mention the one I have with a Tongxin motor! It has no noticeable resistance and I ride it as a normal bike. Frank

Your Supermarket cycle racks - empty of full?

Just been round. I counted six other bikes when I arrived and five (four different) when I left - so 11 including me in total. Its west London, flat but very crowded roads, far enough out for people to have space to keep bikes but still densely populated, so probably likely to have the...

    A non-electric folding bike question

Rear suspension will make it harder work to ride too. Depends what you want it for. OK for going round the block but after a couple of miles it would get tedious.

It's a long way home with no power.

It's rarely happened to me as, if in doubt, I carry a spare battery. But my experience is that running out is fine as long as you have the right gears for the terrain. Then its very like riding a normal bike. It happened to me a couple of times with my old Powabyke, when I went on long...

Your Supermarket cycle racks - empty of full?

Yes, that's exactly what it is! Idea is you take it round the store as your trolley, scan items straight in then hitch up and ride home. Not used one myself yet as I usually manage to get everything in panniers with a carrier bag on my handlebars if needed, but you can borrow it for three...

Your Supermarket cycle racks - empty of full?

Happy to say I always have company when I go to mine. A couple of weeks ago I got the last vacant slot on the rack! The bike-hod trailers that they (Waitrose) provide are also well used. Frank

    Bionx kit in the UK

I don't think there's any reason as such why there are no UK dealers - just no-one has struck a deal with Bionx to represent them in the UK. Perhaps its surprising, but it just shows its an immature market. It might be an opportunity for someone. Frank

    greener miles

Good point, Ian. I guess they can turn up the air conditioning to compensate for the extra heat? I wonder how long before having a gym membership becomes the new 4x4 ownership? Gyms could offer carbon offsetting for 'bingers' to repay their debts to society! Or maybe they could wire...

    greener miles

I can't face trying to work out the e-bike vs bus maths at the moment either! But some studies have been done which show the e-bike in a favourable light, both from the point of view of cost and carbon-efficiency. "The cost of owning and operating an e-bike is the lowest of all personal...
