£1000+ on a bike partner response

Easiest way is if it saves some other cost. I used to spend about £100 per month on commuting by train/tube. I've bought 4 electric bikes, but in a few months time they will have been completely offset by those savings. Other way is to let her have a go - my wife is now the main user of...

Who's Going To Make It 1,000?

Yes - spotted it! My number came from the 'Members List' in the green menu near the top

kit nine continent: any experience with it in UK?

I don't know, but JimmyEngland got his motor + controller (and other accessories) from eCrazyman on eBay.

Where do you get that from - on my members list it still says 949?

Anyone else ordered Trek nano (Cytronex)?

You've certainly managed to rationalise buying another bike, John - well done! I've done a bit of cutting down myself recently as the garage was resembling a bike workshop, so I've got rid of a couple of bikes that weren't being used any more - my wife's old non-electric and her Powacycle...

    Flat tyre on motor wheel

Yes. There's no way to disconnect the motor cable, other than going into the controller, but there's a bit of slack so you can lever the wheel out and squeeze a new tyre in. I got rid of the Kendas and put on Marathon Plus. If, as you say, its not a puncture but wear from the rim, better...

Anyone else ordered Trek nano (Cytronex)?

John, Another bike - I thought you said you were trying to cut down! I'm sure you'll like it; I'll be interested to hear how you find riding with a Tongxin compares to the Panasonic system. Frank

what electric bikes have you ridden at all

No - not fixed it, it's still in the garage! I suspect it was the controller that failed, but it is possible it was the motor. Given this was the second time it had broken down, and all the other reliability problems that crept out of the woodwork between me ordering the kit and it...

    Flat tyre on motor wheel

Evans' price is reasonable. I had a puncture fixed on my Wisper at a bike shop in central London. They normally charge £10 but asked for an extra £5 because of the motor - based on what they charge for bikes with hub gears. On my wife's Powacycle Windsor there is no way to disconnect the...

what electric bikes have you ridden at all

Ezee Torq & Quando - trial, first ones I rode, about a year ago. Was very impressed, but had nothing to compare them too Powabyke 21 speed - owned for 6 months. Temporary purchase while I worked out what I wanted. Powerful, reliable, quite quick, not bad to ride but not a looker Lafree -...

kit nine continent: any experience with it in UK?

If you're happy to order from the manufacturer in China, you'll get many kits for less than that. eg Tongxin or Suzhou Bafang. Not checked prices recently but a few months ago they were both £100 (delivered to UK).

    sparta bikes

I think a Sparta would be fine for that type of hill. Nice bike. Here's a quick summary. AtoB did a detailed review last year. For They look good and appear well made Against Not a good reputation for steep hills - however I followed one up a moderate hill (Holland Park Avenue in...

Just what do I want from an electric cycle?

The Windsor is a very good bike, but I'm not sure it meets your needs. Firstly it is fine on moderate hills but not ideal for the 'silly' ones that you have in Cornwall. I'm a fairly fit cyclist but struggled to get it up a 1 in 10, although I can ride non-electric up much steeper hills...

Can someone confirm these maths? I'm thick.

Your maths is right. Suppliers such as Suzhou Bafang and Tongxin make motors with speeds up to 260 rpm

    Which bike? Can't decide!

Do you really need it to be light if you've got a lift? If not, then a Powabyke might just do the job. They're the tractors of the e-bike world, grind their way up most hills and have a good range. Powabyke are refreshing the range but I believe are still selling the old models. and good...

    DIY electric bike

You could build a bike for about that amount of money using SLAs and a motor, controller and other electric parts sourced directly from the manufacturers in China. You'll find plenty of info on my old posts or those of others. Search on Suzhou Bafang and/or Tongxin. Good luck!

    New Alien bikes on ebay

No experience of those bikes, but I'm pretty certain he is now using the Suzhou Bafang motor - same as the Wisper and Torq v1 - which has proven very reliable. He used to use the Tongxin and gave up on it after reliability problems. Style not to my taste, the battery is pretty small, but the...

    Mistral Upgrade

Agreed, Also many much more expensive bikes would benefit from similar upgrades.

I've narrowed it down to two! Kalkhoff & Wisper.

Wisper and Kalkhoff are very different bikes, but they are not as different as, say, an Ezee and a Kalkhoff, because the Wisper does operate as a pedelec. In some ways the Wisper might be thought of as a cross between Ezee and Kalkhoff type-bikes but one which does a closer imitation of the...
