    Nano/Tongxin motor "gearing" question.

Andy, Tongxin does in fact make 4 or 5 different speeds of motor. There is a 160 rpm which will give c15 mph in 700c wheels, to the 260, as you say, for small wheels. I believe the controller is the same regardless of motor speed. Frank

    700c vs 26 inch

Miles, thanks for clarifying Marginal rolling resistance + slight benefit from riding the bumps better + 11% fewer punctures ... starts to add up!

    700c vs 26 inch

Thanks for the comments. To elaborate on a couple of the points: Depends on what is being marketed I agree it is important to understand where people are coming from, but the article I referenced was written by a guy who sells both wheel sizes, so I don't think there is a commercial agenda...

    700c vs 26 inch

Most electric bikes have 26-inch wheels. A few, such as the Ezee Torq and Kalkhoff range have 700c. The main reason for the prevelance of 26 inches seems to be that that is what is common on bikes in China. In the UK, these wheels are commonly found on mountain bikes (both genuine off-road...

    A to B Magazine

A to B does reference Wisper on their supplier list, but have not done a review as Wisper has not yet asked them to! We've all suggested to David that it would be a good idea and believe it is in the pipeline!

Anyone else ordered Trek nano (Cytronex)?

Thanks Mark, I have no more questions! I have to say that, based on your answers, I'd have no hesitation in ordering one of your bikes. I'd advise anyone reasonably fit and who is not looking for a power-only type bike to try one of these before buying anything else. I believe that it...

Anyone else ordered Trek nano (Cytronex)?

Mark, Welcome to the forum and thanks for putting out a great design and some informative postings. I think your bike looks and sounds superb and, if it proves reliable, will be a better all-round option for someone who wants to ride a bike but have a bit of help on the hills than any other...

    TIME FOR 50cycles TO RETURN?

A plea This thread is not serving any useful purpose! John, I can see that you were making a constructive suggestion, but it has spiralled out of control as this type of thread has done before and is, I feel, always likely to in the future. 50 Cycles is one of many electric bike sellers...

Anyone else ordered Trek nano (Cytronex)?

Good luck if you go for it, Chris. There's no doubting the appeal of a light, decent quality bike with unobtrusive motor to an experienced cyclist! Do let us know how you get on with it!

    Best options for under £1000

Thanks David, The 13Ah Lishen that it came with plus a 10Ah LiFePO4 from Mr Ping, the eBay seller who appears to be leading the commercialisation of this technology, certainly in the electric bike application!

Anyone else ordered Trek nano (Cytronex)?

...I hate to be a sceptic but have they really done 'thousands of miles' on these bikes? How many thousands and over what period of time? How long have they been testing, how old is the version of the controller they are using? How many controllers have they had fail on them, and can...

Anyone else ordered Trek nano (Cytronex)?

That's right. Tongxin does a 160 rpm for 15mph in 700c wheels, a 260 rpm which is used in the Brompton Nano, plus a couple of intermediate speeds. John, Good luck with your choice. Having both a Wisper and a Tongxin motor in my electric bike collection, I have no doubt which is the most...

The best single statistic to get to judge that is peak motor output. Many e-bike sellers do not make this public. I suspect some do not actually know it for their own bikes!

John, Agree with your comments but, fyi, my wife did a 50 mile ride on our Wisper last bank holiday - using two batteries! Frank

Tongxin controller? If so, has it been improved? It might fare better in this application than my higher current version, but I'd want to be confident that the seller has actually tested this application and got at least a few hundred miles / a few months with no controller problems.

It's a nice idea, but the more I learn about e-bikes, the more I realise that, as Flecc says, comparisons like this just can not be reliably made because performance depends on the rider much more than the bike. Imagine a table comparing the performance of non-powered bikes, or running shoes!

Anyone else ordered Trek nano (Cytronex)?

Yes, good point, John - 4.3 Ah...! That is smaller than any battery fitted to a mainstream electric bike, but it still might be ok. I assume it is a similar set-up to the Nano kit - ie most power does indeed come from the rider. If they have used the 160 rpm motor, geared for a max of...

Anyone else ordered Trek nano (Cytronex)?

I think it's an interesting set-up. The switch idea is a good one, recognising that most electric bike throttles are little more than on/off switches. I actually adapted my Wisper to operate using the on/off throttle switch for a time. The issue with Tongxin applications is reliability...
