Agattu vs. Pro Connect - HELP!!

You might find it more comfortable if you adjust the angle of your saddle slightly. If you tilt the front up a couple of degrees it will make your weight significantly less likely to move forward on to the handlebars.

Want to build road legal bike switchable to something for offroad

Jeremy, you'll know this better than me: I can't imagine it being a problem on a discreet implementation, but wouldn't the switch make it, strictly speaking, illegal?

    Promax V Brake Replacement?

brakes John, The brake on my Wisper disintegrated while I was adjusting it before I'd ridden it. I think any V-brake would do. I got the basic shimano one from my local Evans, mainly because it was black, like the one that broke! Cost was £9.99 and 5 mins to fit. Its been fine. Frank

Buy local (lancashire) or mail order?

I have a Wisper SE and it's a great bike, but it's not as fast as a Torq 1. I understand from JimmyEngland's posts (he has owned both) that the SE gives the same performance in unrestricted mode as the E - it's not faster (indeed, John, compared to your performance it sounds like it may be a...

Buy local (lancashire) or mail order?

I didn't think you'd be impressed! In my opinion, electric bikes are a great product and open up cycling to many people who would not otherwise do it, or would not do it anything like as much. But they aren't really designed for a young, fit, competent cyclist in a flat area who wants to...

    Bike sizing

There have been a few posts recently about bike sizes. While normal bikes typically come in a range of frame sizes - 5 being typical - most electric bikes come in just one size. Some, notably the Khalkoff range, do have a range of sizes. In the old days - ie when life was simple and...

    Segway sighting!

I saw a Segway (ride-on electric scooter designed for the American market to make walking obsolete) in London last week. It was on Hyde Park Corner. The chap was balancing on it, right on the edge of the kerb - clearly confident it wasn't going to allow him to fall forward into the traffic...

    Kalkhoff Pro-Connect or Wiper 905SE

Well done - sounds like you've got a bike that meets your needs. I hope you continue to enjoy it! Interesting to confirm that the 905 SE is indeed bigger than the old E

    Wheel sizes 700c 26"

Just ring a few bike shops and you'll find one that will be up for it. I put a kit into my Marin bike with 700c wheels in an attempt to make a bike that would do 20+mph on my flattish commute. It was great while it lasted but the kit I used (Tongxin) has not proved reliable. If I were doing...

    Kalkhoff Pro-Connect or Wiper 905SE

I guess there's a reason why most bikes don't have curved crossbars!

Carrying a wave on a bike rack

I'd go for a tow-bar for electric bikes. It feels much more secure than the tie-on type - and with £2000+ worth of Agattu on the back you don't want to take any chances!

Buy local (lancashire) or mail order?

I'd advise you to try any bike carefully before buying, ideally with a computer so you can see the speed you are doing. Bikes like the powacycle, and the others you mention are available locally, can't be derestricted. If you can cycle at 25 or even 20 mph on the flat on a normal bike, I...

    Kalkhoff Pro-Connect or Wiper 905SE

I don't know how the frame compares to the original E but I think the forks are bigger, which jacks the front up higher. The bottom bracket is high and the crossbar curves up quite steeply in front of the saddle so where you stand it is pretty much flat. I measured the standover height at the...

    Wheel sizes 700c 26"

700c is the size of wheel on racing, touring and many other full-size bikes. It's about 28 inches (or 700mm - it was originally a French size). Perfectly suitable for electric conversionm but you are right, there are not so many ready-made kits in 700c wheels, so you may need to get your...

Carrying a wave on a bike rack

We use one for transporting a Powacycle Windsor. It works fine. Our rack is the ride-on type - I wouldn't use it for a 'hanging by the crossbar' type

    Kalkhoff Pro-Connect or Wiper 905SE

I'm afraid probably not on the Wisper! It is a large framed bike with a standover height of 31.5" (height from the top of the middle of the crossbar to the ground). Obviously it depends on your inside leg measurement rather than height, but it may well be too big for you. I'm 5'8" and the...

Kalkhoff Pro Connect £500 off!!!! £1195

I hadn't realised that Derby Cycles and Raleigh were separate companies. So I looked up the Raleigh accounts to get the picture, and it was quite interesting. In 2007, Raleigh had sales of about £32m consisting of roughly £30m of bike sales in the UK and £2m from licensing the Raleigh (and...

    Solar panels idea

I think I remember reading that the Henshaws of AtoB magazine run their Lafree using entirely solar power. The panels aren't mounted on the bike but trickle charge some old SLA's which then are used to recharge the bike battery. I don't know if solar panels have yet got to the point where...

    The End of the Affair?

Sorry to hear about a vey nasty accident and wish you a speedy recovery. I hate those barriers too. I have to negotiate them getting in and out of the car park at work, and always watch them carefully. I think others have made some good points. I just picked up on your comment above...
