I've only gorn and dunnit !

Got the battery out but, life's a pig sometimes innit, couldn't get it back in. Quick cleanup and a bit of ptfe lube eventually sorted it. I do find that things are easier to use when you know how they're meant to work  As far as I know it's not conductive, it's silicone based. However...

I've only gorn and dunnit !

On the battery, the seller tells me it was always stiff, just don't want to break it. Think I'll be getting the ptfe spray out. However it's blowin a hooly out there at the moment so I'm staying next to my mug of tea.

I've only gorn and dunnit !

I've been searching for a particular bike for about 4 years. In a post around 3 weeks ago, someone mentioned a recumbent they had bought. Out of curiosity I googled it to see what it was like. Up came e-bay and lo and behold the 3rd picture along was the bike I'd been looking for...

    Battery recommendation for Cyc motor

With that size of motor the controller will have to be at least 30A continuous rating, meaning that, yes, it will be 50-60A max. If you get a battery that is capable of delivering 50A max it will be too little. To avoid heat stress and buggering it up within about a year, you need a battery...

    Another Ebike conversion kit death

Yeh and knee jerk legislation like that is always bad legislation and, because of the inability of the campaigning politician to admit they might have been wrong or too narrow viewed, the hardest to repeal.

E-scooters 'are five times safer than bikes' - Study by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents

Easy. Go after Halfords for selling vehicles that ers illegal to use, fine 'em a couple of million. That should be enough to put off most sellers and raise public awareness to discourage buying. Well in my dreams anyway.

    Another Ebike conversion kit death

This is partly down to infrastructure. Would any one keep the petrol (or even diesel) powered vehicle or can of fuel in the hallway/escape route of their flat? Any power dense store is potentially dangerous. Property prices and density of population is forcing people to live in innappropriate...

    Help! Commuter e-bike

For a commute the better, more reliable option is a hub motor, they are near bullet proof. If you go the way of converting the bike you already have you will save hundreds of pounds, have a machine whose workings you have an understanding of, and, should anything go wrong, be able to repair or...

A cure for rusty old tools

Got some chisels out of my van the other day, think they must have been put away wet. Wrapped 'em in toilet paper and dripped white vinegar onto it, left it for 5or 6 hours. Toilet paper soaked up the disolved rust, a light rub with scotchbrite later and they were back in service.

    Legal Pitfalls

Regarding the motor. If it is marked '1500w', or similar, it is ilegal - end of. To be legal it has to be marked/stamped 250w. It would be interesting to know how the seller intends to 'easily make it road legal. Even if controller output current is restricted to 6.9A (250w @ 36v) the motor...

    Parallel batteries

Common sense and caution. Although an electrician of many years my maths and abilities do not stretch to measuring/calculating the internal resistance of batteries, whilst being aware of their scary power density in short circuit. Using the same charger to top of both batteries (one at a time)...

    Parallel batteries

When I connect my two batteries together I am generally looking at 0.05v differential, I will go at 0.1v but no more. My packs are of very similar capacity but one uses a 4A charger, the other a 2A. Of course this means that the 4A one finishes first. I then swap the 4A charger to the other...

Is this a technical breach of the law? Uncertain

It's a pedestrian crossing. Think the clue might be in the title. In that circumstance I would walk my bike over then cycle off beyond the crossing. To do otherwise would cause avoidable agravation, and there's enough of that in the world, why be the source of more for the sake of a couple of...

Swytch kit: compatibility with non-Swytch components?

If you have room XT60's would be far better due to greater current capacity resulting in less heat damage/distortion. Don'y worry about the motor being '250w'. This is merely a continuous rating, in other words the power consumption the motor can take without overheating. Any motor will take...

The flatpack EV: how Luvly is aiming to revolutionise the micro-EV market

Somehow I can't see the gagging for SUV's British public going for that. Can you imagine being in traffic with 4x4's front and back and a truck alongside? However, it makes absolute sense for most city driving, so long as you don't have two kids to drop off at school. (I used to walk (or cycle)...

    New seasons adventures underway

Thanks for the lovely photo's from a part of the world I'm not likely to get too (my wife gets eaten alive by midges). The views are very compelling, however I still think you're an absolute nutter - camping at this time of year - up north ! I think it would be very instructive if you were...

    Legal Pitfalls

This site is obviously giving false information to potential buyers. 1: The bikes are only legal for off road use where there is no public access. In other words ones own private estate or where the land owner has given permission. They don't state this. 2:They state that you don't need a...

Swiss mobility association recommends ABS for all e-bikes

Oh great! More technical complexity and greater fault liability, just what the garden shed maintained bike needs. It'll be MOT's next.
