    can the torq go faster

Turning into a speed junkie Nigel? :D 26mph is pretty quick! The technial answer is yes, but you'd need a new controller and a new battery minimum, possibly a new throttle and you'd be into experimental territory with other possible problems such as overheating. Definatley possible...

    Comparison of Battery Characteristics

Interesting to hear that. I guessed the peak must be quite high as they do seem to have quite a lot of torque. I'm just hooking up a braindrain to test the stock figures now. Soon as i've done this it will be modification time :)

    Comparison of Battery Characteristics

I think they''ve skipped nimh and gone straight to lithium see Powabyke :: Powabyke Electric Bikes I'd be interested to hear otherwise

    Comparison of Battery Characteristics

Mike, I've recently got a couple of powabykes and will be replacing the battery packs with nimh. I'll post up my experiences when I do. I'll probably build my own batteries from individual cells but any of the 36 volt packs sold here should work (providing they fit) Ebikes.ca store. Bear...

Adding a second battery to a Giant Twist Lite.

I sometimes use (discharge) my nimh batteries packs in parallel. It has quite a few advantages over pack switching. Such as: 1 a slight increase in speed (maybe 1 or 2 mph) due to lower voltage sag, 2 more than twice the range of 2 separate packs as batteries have more capacity when...

    Schwinn I-zip?

good finds Nigel, I'd be curious to see what the TGA sells for, also an ezee sprint here eBay.co.uk: Ezee Sprint Electric Bike, spares or repair (item 250090763482 end time 11-Mar-07 16:44:13 GMT)

    Schwinn I-zip?

I think the new currie has a freewheel attached to the bike wheel, but do check with 50 cycles. I thought lots of geared hub motors came with freewheels? I've not yet properly tried the powabyke but from the look of it the only thing that spins is the hub, not the motor or the gears. Seems...

    Schwinn I-zip?

currie have made lots of motors, so its hard to say whats standard and whats not. The old currie motors were brushless and I have a few of these. The one I'm running at the moment has the old controller removed. Instead I'm using a crystalyte controller, the motor was designed for 24 volt so...

    Schwinn I-zip?

Actually I've no idea what my bike actually weigh - much lighter the bike I had before :D If I could take it down to the bicyle weighing station I would. I can carry it up the a flight of steps and onto a train, just. I'm not sure what the izip wiegh I doubt the curry motor and drive...

    Schwinn I-zip?

sub c cells are apparently pretty good. 30 amp discharge from a 3.5ah! I think you can get 4.2AH sub c now. you'll have to charge each series string seperatley but discharge is ok in parallel. If 25 amp is the peak discharge rate then you'd also be ok with good quality 30 amp d cells. If...

    Schwinn I-zip?

when i first tried nimh, it was like another world of electric biking, no more worries about batteries running down, nice and light etc. That said I've recently got a couple of powabykes from Nigel on this forum. They weigh a whoping 40KG each but are still fun and practical bikes . They...

i think the nimh pack and sla pack are the same weight.

    Schwinn I-zip?

i think there's a mistake in the weight. of the schwinn battery which is messing up the maths :D my guess from the specs is a weight 6.8kg (240 watt hours / 35 watt hours per kilo (the 20 hour rating for lead batteries). Basically. You can work out how much energy is in the battery either...

    Schwinn I-zip?

specs don't sound very realistic, of course it depends how much you pedal and whether the bike has a pedelec mode. also depends on how big that lead battery is. If its 10ah expect about 10 miles full throttle. If its 15AH then expect about 16 miles (peukurt effect gives u a bit more for a...

How many electric bikes do you see out on the roads?

Glad to hear that ebikes are prolifierating in Grimsby:D In the last year I've seen 3 in Brighton. 1 sakura scooter type thing, that was about 6 months ago. I spotted a teenage girl riding powabyke in burgess hill about 3 months ago. I also saw a really nice looking custom bike parked...

Torq: How does the speed limiter work & when best to use it?

Hi Stuart, I don't have a torq either :D but i would like to try one some day.Don't pay too much attention to the rest of the graph as it doesn't represent whats happening, the Clyte controllers n the chart have high current limits compared to the torq. The way to really whats happening...

Battery Advances, the Myth and the Reality

Same as, I've had really good experience with nimh. It just worries me that companies are selling li-ion cobalt batteries

Battery Advances, the Myth and the Reality

Sounds good, I don't think I'd be comfortable with a li-ion cobalt battery unless it had a physical method of preventing fire in the case of a thermal event, its simply too risky to rely only on the BMS. Something like your co2 chiller. The other trick I've seen is liposack LipoSack.
