non-folder to fit in the boot?

Yes you are right it is good to go for more capacity than you'll need mainly as this extends the battery's life as it stays in the 100-50% range all the time. If you don't mind spending the extra than it's no problem getting the bigger battery, slightly more weight but not noticeable. But I...

    Help needed

The cold weather makes batteries sag more, as does any resistance so hills or brakes rubbing or extra weight. If it bounces back to full straight away it sounds quite normal. Do you have a lower top speed on a full charge?

non-folder to fit in the boot?

Assuming this is a 48V kit, I doubt you'd need such a large capacity battery. How far do you intend to go on one charge and will you put work into the pedals or not?

Percentages never tell the full story and are often wrong. Can you switch the display to volts? Also, some punctuation wouldn't go amiss.

5 separate punctures on a 14 mile journey home

My 12.5 mile commute is quicker by car so I really have to make the effort to cycle. It is much more exciting but it depends if I have the time/energy and also depends on the weather because my cycle route is mostly small country lanes through a floodplain to avoid the main A road. I imagine...

5 separate punctures on a 14 mile journey home

Nice. My commute on country lanes is covered in flood water and ice this time of year which reduces my pace to walking speed sometimes for 100s of meters. It's not easy living out in the sticks.

@Northmale Did you buy the Whyte Hybrid in the end?

I am curious if you think this is fast or slow.

    Brake calipers quality

Assuming mechanical for that price? I have never found much difference in stopping power between any mechanical disc and rim brakes. Once you get into hydraulics performance can vary, all are more powerful than the other two types of course.

How do you deal with a puncture/breakdown when out?

When on my KTM, untouched areas of tarmac often put me off filtering. Motorbike tyres are the dearest of the lot.

    Help me buy an ebike

It's only a 2 hour journey at 10mph which is a very leisurely pace. More likely 1hr30. 45 mins - 1hr to a café and back is quite easy for the whole family with battery power.

    Reduced range in the cold

Thanks, not injured at all. I found myself laughing as the slide on my back felt like it went on forever. Less laughing trying to get the chain back on. Studded tyres would be nice but I don't know how they perform on thawed tarmac. I'm going to disguise myself as a car driver until temps are...

    Reduced range in the cold

Half the round trip done (12.5 miles) this morning in -1C. No discernible difference in performance or capacity from the battery however I did have a nice lie down on sheet ice. Turns out they don't grit country lanes. Once I put my chain back on with the only light source for miles being my...

    Reduced range in the cold

With the colder weather coming, how much less range can I expect? It's going to be between -5C and 0C during my commute all week instead of 8C+ recently. 25 miles round trip and the battery already gets close to the limit if I rely on it too heavily by essentially ghost pedalling. Edit - The...

    EZ Rider Brompton Kit

Sorry I was hijacking the thread. Wheel is 26". Presumably, the motor heats up until failure so as long as I keep an eye on temperature, grinding noise isn't a problem?

    EZ Rider Brompton Kit

Thanks for this saneagle it explains the noise I'm hearing up hills. The noise stops if I slow down a little, am I damaging the motor if I keep full power up hill and make the grinding noise?

surprise info on trike.. need help

No that's the display unit. Controller could be hidden in the frame or in the hub motor if bafang have started doing in-built controllers, I'm not sure.

surprise info on trike.. need help

Yes they will but I wouldn't get your hopes up. I can't see where the controller is currently located and it has hardwired lights. People have swapped out parts on prebuilt bikes before but each design is a new challenge, it depends what the bike shop find. The trike uses generic parts so that's...

surprise info on trike.. need help

You'll need a new controller and probably higher discharge current battery. Luckily you have a bafang hub motor so it will be compatible with off the shelf controllers. Controller for Bafang 250w hub drive | Pedelecs - Electric Bike Community

Woosh starts shipping Tongsheng TSDZ8 with 250W label

Absolutely. The idea that a throttle is dangerous is absurd - it literally throttles down the power. How having an unrefined full power on/off switch attached to the pedals is a better idea is beyond me.
