Please take me back to school battery electrics

I haven't got any experience with mid drives. However, the current limit will basically come down to how quickly you can get rid of heat, which should be better with a mid drive as I believe the coils are on the outside, so can cool better than a hub drive. People like VFR should be able to...

    Long commute question

Can you mount a small hive on a cycle helmet and have a tube coming out with "hive air" for breathing as you cycle? Obviously, you'd have to put a mesh in the tube to avoid undesirable surprises...you don't want to do something daft. ;)

Please take me back to school battery electrics

If you are going to 48V and you have a 36V controller, in many cases the "36V" controller will work fine with 48V, except that the low voltage cut off will not work. Can you open up the controller and check the big capacitors inside? If they are rated for 63V, you should be ok to run at 48V.

    Long commute question

I think a bigger problem for asthmatics these days is pollution, rather than pollen. A lot of people who are not normally asthmatic and get symptoms when they go out in cold air are actually reacting to nitrous oxides, low level ozone and particulates...

Another important factor is whether you can recharge at work or not.

    Long commute question

All sorts of things can set asthma off, not necessarily pollen. Usually it's things like house dust, smoke, exercise etc, but it could be just taking a breath of cold air, or even someone's perfume. But having asthma doesn't mean you won't be any good on a bike. If it is well controlled, it...

    Long commute question

Yes, if you have good levels of fitness you can get away with smaller packs. 20 years ago I would not have blinked at doing a 14 mile commute without any assist at all. But nowadays, I would not like to have to ride 14 miles to get home into the wind, maybe uphill too with only a 6Ah pack which...

    Long commute question

Whatever kit you get, make sure you have a decent size battery. I would not go less than 15Ah.

where can i buy internal parts for the powabyke dc hub motor i believe it to be the easy shopper model

On my Powabyke I replaced the awful, noisy, inefficient and heavy motor it had with a modern brushless motor. Much lighter/quieter and more efficient. Powabyke are still going down in Bristol, have you emailed them? BTW, your boost converter looks quite exposed to the elements. I have 3D...

Ebike charging using Street EV chargers for electric cars

Interesting, show some pics if you can. Just have to hope for good weather when you go camping! On an overcast day, power output can drop to a tiny fraction of the panel's rated power.

The Battery I was always Hoping for.

With so many gravitons leaking out of those battery packs, they have to be careful not to put too many in one shipping container, or this can happen:

cycle computer suitable for 26" wheel electric bike

Hang on to the sensor, as I had a new Cateye that had a sensor failure. Luckily I kept the sensor from an older model which had fallen off like yours and that worked with the new Cateye.

cycle computer suitable for 26" wheel electric bike

I've used Cateye for some years and have not had a problem recording speeds >30 mph. However, they are not perfect. The wireless version only has a short range and can be blocked by interference from some flashing LED lights. Also, I had an almost new transmitter fail after only a few months.

Not if the controller is set to the "wrong" wheel size lol

2- 4 prong 'Silverfish' style battery - advice needed please

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear enough in my very first reply about swapping over the the bases of the battery packs, which is what I meant. Still, you have a use for the 15Ah pack, so it's not a dead loss. It's always good to have spare battery packs, eg if you go on long trips, or take your...
