Ebikes and exercise goals ? Really ?

I have Woosh DWG22C kits fitted to our tandem and to a solo bike. As I still want to get some exercise, I tend to use low assistance levels. The DWG22C is probably slightly overkill for a solo as it can provide a lot of assistance. I normally use Level 2 (of 5) on either bike. This suits us...

    Battery charging anomalies

vidtek - I spoke with a friend who studied electronics at Uni and has worked on (Industrial) electric motor control systems for many years. He pretty much stated the same things as you have above. Woosh - I wasn't overly concerned, but am one of those irritating people who likes to understand...

    Battery charging anomalies

Thanks for the responses. flecc - my first thought was also potential variations in the mains supply, but the charger can accept an input voltage range from 180 volts to 240 volts so I thought it should be able to accommodate minor fluctuations in the mains. Woosh - I only have the one charger...

    Battery charging anomalies

A bit of a puzzle for those more electrically / electronically knowledgable than myself. I have Woosh DWG22C kits fitted to two of my bikes. Both have 48 volt 12Ah batteries and both have worked very well since their installation and continue to do so. I monitor battery charge cycles /...

Orbit Tandem & Woosh DWG22c 48v rear hub kit

Hi Ray - yes, original spokes were 12 gauge (2.6mm). Sapim Strong is my choice of spoke for a motor hub.

Orbit Tandem & Woosh DWG22c 48v rear hub kit

Hi Ray, glad to hear that things have (mostly) gone well for you. My experience of broken spokes is that once one goes, more will follow shortly afterwards so it’s best just to rebuild the wheel. My 2nd Woosh wheel started to break a few spokes at the J bend after about 700 miles, so I moved...

    Stuck seat post

AndyBike - thanks for mentioning the RetroBike site. I didn't know about it. I still have my 1980's Raleigh Clubman 12 and my 1993 DynaTech 755Ti race bike, they'd fit in well on that forum :)

    Stuck seat post

There a few 'farmboy' type solutions too: A 50/50 acetone and Auto Transmission Fluid mixture is a great penetrating fluid. Clamp the seatpost in a vice and turn the frame If you have access to a compressor, use an air-hammer to vibrate it loose - sounds like overkill, but I've never come...

    First time wheel build

I'd be inclined to go for a 1 x cross lacing pattern too. Even the Sapim Polyax nipples will only give you about 9 degrees maximum entry angle. I had a few failures of my hub motor spokes at the rim (on a tandem) when laced as a two cross. The spoke entry angle was too great - even after I...

    First time wheel build

I'm not familiar with the DT Swiss range, so can't really comment on their requirement for washers. I can't imagine that DT Swiss would be significantly different to Sapim though, so if Sapim recommend washers for large holed hubs, I suspect DT Swiss will be the same. I don't have a Bafang...

Help choosing kit - probablly Whoosh but will consider others...

When I bought my 2nd DWG22C kit last year, I had to wait for a few months for batteries to arrive - they were bogged down somewhere in the post CV-19 supply chain problems. I could have sourced a battery from elsewhere, but I preferred to wait for Woosh as in my experience they are a reliable...

    First time wheel build

The Sapim Strong spoke is single butted and plenty strong (and flexible) enough. I've never tried a motor wheel with double-butted spokes, but if your hub has small enough spoke holes that should be OK.

Modifying King Meter LCD power levels

Woosh - have you had an opportunity to contact your suppliers regarding availability of the KD58C LCD display? Happy to e-mail Andy at the shop if that is easier.

    First time wheel build

I agree with Nealh above -another vote for Sapim Strong spokes from me. Sapim polyax nipples also give you a bit more angle at the rim if required. Roger Musson's book (PDF) on wheelbuilding is a great reference. The wheelbuilding video on the Grin bikes website is also a good primer - they...

Modifying King Meter LCD power levels

Yes, it seems slightly odd that the King Meter 529 doesn't seem to have any user configurable options. Other KM LCD's appear to offer more opportunity for end-user customisation. The KM SW-U unit looks quite decent in terms of user configurability. On the one hand, I'm an inverate 'fiddler'...

Modifying King Meter LCD power levels

Woosh - the KD58c LCD looks like it would provide the additional level of control that I'd like. Do you have indication of when these units are likely to be back in stock? If you / Andy are able to provide the 'base' settings, that would be helpful too, as I don't want to 'cook' anything! Ta.

Modifying King Meter LCD power levels

I have fitted Woosh DWG22C rear hub motor kits to two of my bikes and have been very pleased with the results. The kits use cadence sensing and speed control to modulate the output from the motor. The controller is made by Lishui and the LCD display is a King Meter 529. Generally, I’m happy...

    DWG22 Motor noise

I had a listen to your audio file and the characteristics of the noise are very similar to my own two motors. What is more difficult to judge remotely is the volume level. I find my motors to be very quiet - not silent, but perfectly acceptable. The problem is that my definition of 'quiet'...

    DWG22 Motor noise

Bogmonster666 - the ticking noise turned out to be spoke noise. Surprising as all the spokes were tight and pretty uniform in tension - I checked them all with my tension meter. That said, that wheel was on the back of a tandem and subject to a lot more stress than a solo bike. Tandems are...
