    Legal road scooter

No need, it's already in place. One of the clevernesses in EAPC law is the division set between them as Bicycles and Motor Vehicles, and of course motor vehicles are banned from all footpaths, shared paths, cycleways, bridleways etc. That division is set in the last words of the Type Approval...

De restrict for off road use

It's what the laws say that they are repeating: From the original EAPC law of 1983: 2. In these Regulations— “continuous rated output” has the same meaning as in the 1971 British Standard; And from the Two and Three Wheeled Type Approval law exemption for EAPCs: (h) pedal cycles with pedal...

De restrict for off road use

I don't agree. The government quite rightly recognises that perfect accuracy is nigh on an impossibility, so it's unreasonable to expect it of designers, manufacturers, owners, police or even courts, so the 10% is to deal with that human factor intruding, no matter where it occurs. Of course...

De restrict for off road use

Yes, there is no such set of conditions applied to the tolerance. It can of course be the tolerance for the bike to get it wrong. .

De restrict for off road use

The DfT have confirmed that the usual 10% tolerance allowed on speed limits also applies to the EAPC assist limit. The strictest interpretation of the original 25kph law plus 10% allows 17.08762 mph. .

Official Statement from YOSEPOWER regarding the "Triangle Battery Recall" Post

And even more relevant skeletions, like deliberately turning the Chinese into a nation of Opium addicts to take trading advantage. They still call it their century of shame and will never forget our behaviour back then. .

Official Statement from YOSEPOWER regarding the "Triangle Battery Recall" Post

Precisely, nothing whatsoever to do with us and none of our business, so not for us to criticise. There are no such issues as human rights and freedom of expression outside of our own political sphere, they are fabrications we use as an excuse to interfere with other's national business. .

"Brompton weighs in on better battery laws to clamp down on eBike fires "

The one in Texas was due to a fire in 12 volt battery ancillaries circuit, just like those in IC cars. Leaf fires in the USA and FOUR in Ukraine? Strange they don't happen where the Leafs are mostly sold. Perhaps they were like the non-existent EVs that didn't cause the multi story car park...

"Brompton weighs in on better battery laws to clamp down on eBike fires "

Yes, I'm quite sure we will be seeing many more changes yet. But given the current climate and the huge problems Lithium fires are causing, there's much to be said for Nissan's cautious very safe approach meanwhile. It would take just one traction battery fire to destroy their 14 year...

"Brompton weighs in on better battery laws to clamp down on eBike fires "

I suspect the main cause is still the cylindrical cells. You'll remember long ago when laptop fires became commonplace and the main manufacturers held their hands up, inadequate manufacturing quality control as the cause. There's indications that this is still a problem. Some while ago...

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

It is obvious to them, but apparently not obvious to you. They are controlling them with registration, ever tougher driving tests and licences, ever lower speed limits and many other restrictions, while keeping EPACs and other bicycles almost bureaucracy free with improved access to the...

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

And the US hire companies? Legalisation is necessary for them and they will be expecting it. The trial has already been extended, it can't be for ever. And I don't see Currys having a conscience about servicing. Much of the market they are selling to is the kids cheap one. When mummy's...

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

Don't be so confident, Labour or Tory will face the same dilemma, legalise e-scooters or tell the US hire companies to pack up and get out and tell Currys et al to also pack up selling them. Will either have the guts? .

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

I agree and would prefer that the law never changes and hope it doesn't. But I'm a realist, acknowledging the pressures that exists for it to change and the fact that it already has de facto changed, since our streets have e-bikes a-plenty with throttles and 500 watts or much much more and...

    What's the answer?

Fully agree on both your points. I'm a heretic where assisted bikes are concerned. Despite an association with them in the trade from my youth I never wanted one, always liking riding good bicycles far too much. I was nearly 70 when I bought my first EAPC and then it was only to help hauling...

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

I've already said, recognising the high demand which isn't going to go away, plus the fact that the change has long been de facto anyway and we are obviously never going to get the policing to stop that. History proves it, the rise from 200 watts to 250 watts happened accidentally without...

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

No it isn't, since as well as exemption (J) there is also exemption (b) Vehicles exclusively intended for the handicapped and exemption (k) providing for low seating points on LIe bicycle based vehicles, so a choice of options And anyway claims of such discrimination are too often unrealistic...

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

But not as EAPCs. Although the DfT say they "consider" them as EAPCs, they are not. They are no longer only electric assisted when they can be driven by throttle alone, and the fact of Type Approval re-specifies them as motor vehicles in law. Just excused the bureaucracy in GB alone. But...
