The tale of a £100 second hand electric bike.

If the sensor does not work, then they might be "scotched" if you speak to the rights of way officer, about the legality of blocking someone pushing a bike, wheelchair, pram or buggy on a registered footpath? "You are allowed to take a pram, push-chair, or wheelchair along any public footpath...

Help! Orlieb panniers and moustache bikes

Not mudguards but Ortlieb's pannier bags. Over four years ago ours cost £99, a pair and I looked far for that price. Worth it IMO if panniers are needed.

Can you ride an ebike in fully manual mode?

Just come in form a ride where I explored your question. With our 2016 Kalkhoff Agattu featuring an Impulse 2 crank drive*, on the flat it works okay with the motor switched off, considering its a 25 odd kgs bike. Very little fun, better get the exercise selecting a torque sensing drive system...

Can you ride an ebike in fully manual mode?

Welcome. With crank motors at least, internal clutches allow that but the extent of the gearing still involved, so the "drag" varies, design to design; I am not able to assist in the details model to model, others I know are.

Help! Orlieb panniers and moustache bikes

I can't see that our Classic roll backs would not. With only a few days to go wait, then give us the length dimensions of the top rail. Our Classics came with clip in spacers for I believe 10 mm dia tubing, their standard clip being for 15 mm [all from memory back to 2016 when we got ours]...

Ebike charging using Street EV chargers for electric cars

Has anyone contacted these providers, such as BP-pulse for their take on the use of these public EV charging stations for our ebikes? _____________________________________________________ I presume the outlets, irrespective of the plug type are 230 VAC at 50 Hz, with possibly single and three...

Ebike charging using Street EV chargers for electric cars

For the reason I said, that it is quite possible the designers of these EV charging points might well have implemented a provision to expect the characteristics of an EV? Seeing otherwise, as a potential tampering attempt or another abnormally, but not as intend and go into a protection role...

Ebike charging using Street EV chargers for electric cars

Possibly: Potentially the level could be so low the station will not recognise it as a "proper" charge, from being some sort of fault?

No chain and infinite gears - Oyo e-bike with hydraulic drivetrain

So many organisations employ "stylist" rather than designers, the stylist having highjack the term designer, in some companies completely. The stylist should be just a tool in the designer's team, aircraft, cars, bikes etc [ very long listing] designed that way round are far safer than the...

No chain and infinite gears - Oyo e-bike with hydraulic drivetrain

If comparing to a chain drive where each side plate, roller, pin and any dirt seals are added into the parts count, then saying "fewer moving parts" is easily justified. Just wonder why recourse to a hydrostatic variable speed drive was considered, where the innate properties of a brushless...

    Integrated controllers in hub motors...

"Too many eggs in one basket", as the saying goes. Integration undoubtedly has its style appeal, very important to some, though it is a "driver" of our present throwaway society. The latter, something in the future that might also be seen as a whim that the planet ought to be spared?

    Woosh Rio crashing in style

Well, first I am very conscious of pedestrians, and their priority as on shared ways, but still use footways in certain areas where as a cyclist one would have to have a death wish to mix it with the motorised vehicles. Despite the illegality, a modicum of sense is needed and that is generally...

Why bike part manufactures doesn't make robust ebike specific drivetrain parts?

It is worth noting that even a 56 kg rider using 165 mm cranks and standing on the pedals develops the quoted 90 NM of crank torque. That's just with a softly applied load, it's going to be way more if the rider “pumps” their weight when pedalling hard, not to mention if they bring in direct...
