    350W BMS Battery legality problem

My Mezzo has an ENxxxx sticker on it :) Presume that means it's passed all the UK safety standards and quality assurance levels. Having a proper branded serial numbered bike makes it a lot easier on my insurance, but I'm not sure where I stand with regards to the electric side of it and if that...

Final limit at 250 watts EU ruling

Right.. the problem is, an e-bike is already borderline eh between vehicle with people riding throttle only..what if the motor fails to cut out, due to a wiring fault or brake failure, on a footpath, it could be a disaster if someone is doing 18-20mph. So do you lift the restriction on speed and...

Final limit at 250 watts EU ruling

OK put it another way, 18-20mph may be fine on the roads, but what about on foot paths? I know most forum members are too sensible to do that and many don't even ride on footpaths unless there's signs... but still, if we had ebikes going over 15mph without pedalling you can see some idiots might...

    350W BMS Battery legality problem

Yeah I guess so, unless the controller in question is higher power than the BMS Battery let on.. this is the thing really, because the industry is unregulated and you're dealing with companies in China... how can consumers really be responsible eh. Unless we do what the law asks and present our...

Final limit at 250 watts EU ruling

Yeah that's basically it.. you can't have it both ways eh.. like the higher speed of a moped but the functionality and freedoms of a bicycle still. You need insurance because there's greater risk of accidents etc and the bike has to be checked for safety.

Final limit at 250 watts EU ruling

I agree with this and can see the sense in it, having these clear distinctions and limitations on pedelecs to keep them separate from electric mopeds.. we've discussed this a lot in the past and you can see the sound reasoning behind this law really end of the day..for the safety of all...

    350W BMS Battery legality problem

Exactly. This is my concern. People are placing an order in good faith expecting to get kit which is UK road legal, and it appears that's not what is being sent. Of course, you can remove the sticker etc, and use a 250W controller.. but if you did get pulled by the cops for any reason and they...

    350W BMS Battery legality problem

Which is the power rating then eh? It can't be both 250W and 350W..why are they quoting a range on their website? I've seen sellers offering 250W OR 350W but never one motor that does both.

Throttles and the other EU nations

But why doesn't ether France, or the EU establish their countries of origin (regardless of how they got here) and then just deport them directly back to where they came, and put them in holding detention centres just as we do here, to prevent them skipping across EU borders... if they're...

    350W BMS Battery legality problem

Oh I'm well familiar with the routine I import regular for my business, but it's very rare for anything to be inspected, for me anyway. Normally they trust couriers to do it and put the items on the system for VAT+Duty collection. Heh I know what you mean about the mistakes.. I used to use TNT...

    350W BMS Battery legality problem

Ya hopefully as flecc said the controller will limit that motor down to 250W...and if it's too "lively" I can always use my speedict to cap it anyway and keep things safe.. I certainly wouldn't intentionally break the law or put others in danger.. I'm just a bit disappointed BMS sold me 350W...

Hehe imagine what riding that!..the film Easier Rider springs to mine! It would be fun to build an electric bike that resembles one of those choppers =)

One of the biggest one day events in Shropshire and the biggest one day cycle race in the UK is the Shropshire Star Newport Nocturne, held every four years it is Britain's only floodlit cycle race.

    Throttles NOT illegal in EU

Yeah I know what you mean, folders are great when you got limited space..even my 26" full size MTB fits nicely in the hallway or in a cupboard. I've had to retire it though as the weight (even at 21kg) is too much for me with the stairs as I'm right on the 2nd floor. Now I got the Mezzo it's...

Throttles and the other EU nations

If the French did their job properly and secured their borders our Border Agency wouldn't have to do all that and spend so much money protecting our border against the growing population of illegals who basically just camp nearby and try to get sneak into UK every day illlegally. It seems like...

Throttles and the other EU nations

I think our approach to higher voltage makes more sense.. have you seen the state of electrics in US? Their houses constantly blow fuses and lights flicker when the washing machine is on etc..hehe.

    Weather woes

I feel sorry for anyone commuting home the weather is terrible here (in Midlands here at least) severe gale force winds and raining all day.. I've seen there's flooding warnings all over the place, especially in the Southwest where some houses have already been flooded... I hope everyone's ok...

    Throttles NOT illegal in EU

I had to modify the gears on my 26" to keep up with my motor, there was no way I could pedal at full power even in 6th gear. Since the bike was originally a 21-speed I just used a bigger chainwheel to get it more highly geared and manually slipped the chain. I don't know what gear it's in (the...

    350W BMS Battery legality problem

Haha now there's a thought! It's strange but, I don't know whether it's the same in other areas, but here in the Midlands the police seem to have ZERO interest in e-bikes. I live right opposite one of those little "community-policing" offices and they're always coming and going... they've seen...
