    Is it legal?

I think the legal position is, as soon as you put a motor over 250W onto anything it becomes a motorbike and requires registration and licensing etc to use it legally on the road, even if you're restricting it to 15mph. It's just not legal to put it on the road. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

Do you leave your battery on the bike when you lock it?

I've never been in a situation (yet) where I've had to leave my bike anywhere..but it's a self-build with the battery in a handlebar bag. If I needed to leave the bike I'd just unclip the bag and take it with me, the battery is under 3kg.

The French put a stop to it.

There'a apparently over half a million English people now resident in France (and increasing every year) so maybe that has something to do with it ;-)

Had a puncture recently on Schwalbe Marathon Plus

Hey Dave good to see you back posting! I've not been around for a while myself. I agree about marathan plus tyres givin that extra piece of mind to go further a field which is essential on electric bikes I think..I'd hate to get stranded middle of nowhere with a puncture! I know some members...

    How to sell an ebike?

I agree with other posters, I think the best place to sell is here under the classifieds. Its the right market after all. But it wouldn't hurt to list it on eBay too and it's fairly cheap to list. If you list it on eBay, it's probably better to do it as a "Buy It Now" for above the price you...

Had a puncture recently on Schwalbe Marathon Plus

I think they're good tyres I have them myself and I swear it's saved me loads of punctures..but as flecc said will only lower the incidence of routine punctures from things like thorns, glass etc, but not nails...if you go over a nail you're gonna get a puncture.

hi all first poster needs help

Is that company still trading? Maybe they could help you out for a circuit diagram or even offer a cheap replacement board? Controllers are fairly cheap to replace so it might not be worth repairing it unless you can't get a replacement of course..

    First ride after 4 months..

Hey all, what a great day it's turned out weather wise! Hope everyone is enjoying it and using their bikes...the weather has been weird lately with all this heavy rain eh. I've just got back from my first ride today in over 4 months!! So strange riding after all this time.. was like the...

    Insurance

This is a tricky subject as insurers vary what they will and won't cover greatly I've found.. a general rule of thumb is that if you have a branded electric bike the insurer will normally cover it to the replacement value if it's listed as a separate high value item on a household policy, but...

    Bradley Wiggins Sparks Helmet Debate

Absolutely. Fantastic idea. This would surely save more lives than enforcing helmets. It's not cyclists that are the problem, it's motorists, particularly lorry drivers.

    Bradley Wiggins Sparks Helmet Debate

Just caught this story earlier..outraged! Typically knee-jerk nanny-state reaction. I just hope the government doesn't go ahead and make it law to wear those silly helmets. We've managed fine without them thus far and there's absolutely no credible evidence they save lives or prevent head injuries.

Question about new 20" wheel motor and controller

Sounds like a good plan Eddie, thanks for the suggestion. I have no idea how much it would cost to get a wheel spoked up with the motor, any idea? It's surely got to be a saving though on the 389 euro for the pre-spoked motor or 400+ euro for getting a whole new kit, from Austria. I asked the...

Question about new 20" wheel motor and controller

Hi all, I've asked this question before but couldn't get a definitive answer so I'm hoping this time someone will be able to advise me.. I'm looking to buy a 20" (rear) wheel 36V/250W motor for a new conversion I'm doing... rather than use a new controller, I'd prefer to just buy the wheel...

Anyone found a comfortable saddle that doesn't look odd...!?

I think a decent saddle is the best upgrade you can make to a bike and makes all the difference, especially if you're in the saddle for the extended periods.

I'm posting this as I don't know where else to put it and haven't been able to contact the site admins directly (the contact links at bottom aren't linked to anywhere) so hoping they will see it.. Basically the image uploading doesn't seem to be working too good. On Epiphany browser the...

Anyone found a comfortable saddle that doesn't look odd...!?

Hi Mark, I know what you mean about those cheapo super thin unpadded saddles that come as standard on MTB's these days. Mine was like a bloody razor blade and the very first thing I upgraded. I got a GelTech brand one ("Premier" model) from a seller on eBay and I think it cost under £15 if...
