Word caution regarding pannier bags, don't put wallets or keys in them when riding. We lost a bag recently when riding over rough ground, luckily an honest person found it and tracked us down. From now my keys and wallet stay on my person in zipped pocket or backpack.

As you have found out there is no substitute for doing test rides. Suggest you try Bosch or Shimano STEPs mid drive bike, they are out if your price range but are a totally different experience.

You can add harder to clean to that list. I've experience chain wrap twice now when forgot to engage XT derailleur clutch.
