Overweight and looking for what to buy.

The best calories burning exercise is one you enjoy the most. In my case 20minute is my max for swimming before bored sets in, while I can happily ebike for hours. For overweight person ebikes have advantage that their joints aren't carry weight and max heartrate can be controlled. Hopefully...

    Kalkhoff bikes/50 cycles

To be fair it is ones with problems you hear about, riders with no problems don't say anything.

Another fat lad with a few questions

Race is has better fork and 11spd, for commuting 9spd Pro would be fine and cheaper to maintain. CX drive is hard on drivetrain, 9spd parts are lot cheaper than 11spd XT. It would be a very steep hill that would find 9spd low gear not enough.

    Switched to Haibike SduroTrekking

Being able to hire battery for odd long trip would be bonus. The alternative is pub lunch and top up, £850 buys a lot lunches.

Fat Bloke - Not cycled for years...

Since you do like pedalling and would like to put some work at least on way home, torque sensing would suit you. Either factory middrive like shimano steps or Bosch or hubdrive with torque sensing. Given your weight Bosch CX would be good choice should get you to work sweat free at 15mph.

    Hub or crank?

Just been looking at Pinion range of bikes (crank gear box), these would be perfect for rear hub motor conversion. Get best of both worlds, rear hub with belt drive. A quick change of rear wheel and it is back to normal bike.

2018 Bikes, but sticking with what i've got

Great till needs replacing. Standard factory batteries like Bosch powerpack are easy to source if little pricey but you do have choice if retailers and sizes.

    Hub or crank?

Www.ebiketips.co.uk have article on fitting middrive kit, straight forward if you have some mechanical skills. See buying advice section. If you do get a kit and don't like bike after woulds, you can transfer it to cheap MTB or hybrid. Ideally something with mudguards and front suspension if...

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

There maybe small market for kit that would allow fitting BBS01 motor as Impulse replacement. Need bracket with standard crank to bolt into frame where Impulse motor was. Ideally use Impulse battery. Would lose torque sensing but at least bike would be useable.

Some good road bikes for 2018

If they are smart it may dongle proof. These bikes are not ideal for dongles anyway as motor is not as powerful as likes of CX and battery is to small.

Active and active plus city drives are quieter and have fullsize chainring. On change to performance drives this year, probably next.

Just been shopping! Cube Reaction Race 500

The smart sams it comes with are reasonable quick due to centre ridge. Not best grip for breaking on road especially in wet. For commuting and light offroad I'd run marathon at back and keep smart sam on front. Gives you some offroad grip up front for braking and steerage in mud.
