    Mid drive

How does Banfang MAX compare to likes of Bosch and Shimano Steps in responsive. I have Shimano and like it, as for noise not to much of issue but suspect hubs are lot quieter.

    Absolute newbie to e-bikes!!

Make sure battery is easy removable, so you can charge it at home. For easy starting at lights either throttle (mostly hub drive) or crank/midrive with internal geared hub ( allows you to change gears while stationary). Unfortunately most bikes use derailleur gears which require you shift down...

2016 Giant Road e+1 display in KPH not MPH

I find speedo and display a bit of distraction, considering covering it up as I spend more time looking at display than view.

    Hi From the Highlands!

Conversion kits are normally cadence sensing while a lot of commercial ebikes a torque, both will flatten those hills. Cadence has disconnected feel while torque makes you feel like superman ie bigger smile factor.

Giant E-Road +1 The Ride Home

I suspect Bosch have seen this before and found a way to detect it ie if (crank rev == wheel rev) error503 With electronic shifting eg Di2 and electric NuVinci hub. Bosch should be able to calculate expected speed. If you plan to jail break a Bosch with electronic gear shifting, you maybe...

    Changing from hub to crank

You may be able to use likes of Suntour NCX or thudbuster for seat suspension

Giant E-Road +1 The Ride Home

Heard one method of cheating the system. Place a spoke magnet on inside of crank arm, near pedal end and reposition pickup. Unlike dongles this doesn't mess with you wiring. The controller speedo will be wayout but nothing an aftermarket speedo can't fix. Yet to try it but sounds like it...

Hub gears v derailleur on an E bike.

There is also option to upgrade the hub to Di2 system later. Allows faster shifting plus possible automatic shifting depending on mid drive system.

Checkout http://www.trail-gator.com/ No rain cover but cheaper and easier to transport is 1 ebike + 1 kid bike. NB may not work with some 20" kids bikes, but that is few years away for you. I had one for few years, brilliant device. With any seat post mounted trailer, rear battery racks may...

newbie looking for recommendations and advice

Unless you ride on a velodrome, I would recommend front shocks. For around town and cycle paths entry level shocks will do but for rougher roads and tracks air shocks are way to go. You are spending a lot of money on ebike making riding more fun why not make it more comfortable.

dealers price for a 500w bosch battrey

The Shimano Steps batteries are half price of Bosch, slightly lighter and with 2yr warranty. It is not dealers that are price gouging but Bosch.

Ok uphill. What about down hill?

If you do decide to fit discs, do your homework. 180mm on front and buy mid range brakes. The wife's ebikes entry level brakes and 160mm disc are hard work compared to my MTB with better quality brakes and 180mm disc.

    Embarrassment

Give you butt 2-3wks to get conditioned. If still a problem then look for new seat. As your fitness increases try working up a sweat on way home by lowering assist level. Of course max assist an no sweat on way to work. One plus of ebikes is it allows me to wear full wet weather gear...

    Step through bikes

I'm not likely buy a step through for myself (fit 50+ male) but have become fond of my wife ebike step through. Only just start swinging my leg through inside to get on and off, works well when scooting. Definitely a fan of up right position, a lot easier on arms and back plus makes looking...
