Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

Focus new eMTBs are using Shimano new unproven eMTB drive, instead of inhouse Impulse. http://ebike-mtb.com/en/world-premier-first-ride-new-focus-jam-2/

Raleigh Motus Cross bar. Is upright ridiing style possible

I do like my wife's low step for getting on and off especially with full panniers or bag on rack. The times I've had panniers on my MTB I tend to clip them mounting. Only down side of low step is battery in rack which can make bike rear heavy if fully loaded. The NCX suspension seat post is a...

6ft, 17 Stone and looking to commute 15-20 miles each way through South London.

The Carrera has been getting good reviews from forum members and is in your price range. Battery range shouldn't be issue if you can charge it at work.

    Advice most appreciated

I meant commercial mid drive bikes, BBS mid drive tends to be on kits.

    Advice most appreciated

Try before you buy. I doubt you would buy a £1000 dress without try it on, ebike is no different. There are 2 sensing systems, cadence and torque, you need to try them both. Both climb hills without a problem but feel is totally different. NB all middrives eg Bosch, Shimano use torque plus a...

    First ever bike!

The two big differences to try are cadence sensing and torque sensing, power delivery/feel is very different.

    2017 E-Silence EVO

I'm assume EWheels is Australian, if so Avanti do an equivalent. "Inc E" , local NZ Avanti dealer has one shop so ring round. I think price as around $4k which is very good for belt drive. I think you can retro fit Di2 to Nexus 8. The other alternative is Smartmotion Pacer.

    Kalkhoff Sahel Compact Impulse 8?????

You can't go wrong with Bosch, it is well supported. Every other component on bike can be fixed/replaced/upgraded by any local bike shop. If frame works for you buy it.

    Thoughts on Carrera Crossfire-E

For hills you can double your climbing speed while not sweating. x2-3 if you want to add sweat. On flat without head wind normal bike will be a few km/hr faster but most riders will be sweating.

    Scott e-Sub Tour 20 (2015)

Have you tried taken battery down to <25%. My first one went from 25-8% in a second, the warranty replacement is good to 15% then goes to 8%.

Carerra Crossfire or Whisper 905 Torque

The cadence bike I tried, power settings acted more like speed settings. 10,15 25,30km/hr. Not an issue if you are riding on your own or commuting, but maybe issue when riding in company especially if your riding companion or group is doing eg 17km/hr. With torque sensing you have total...

I wonder how often this happens?

I tended to be fair weather commuter but having access to wife's ebike means I ride in all weather. Use ebike with raincoat leggings and gumboots ( wellies) on wet days and my MTB on dry days.

    Why Derailleurs gears?

There is nothing wrong with cheaper derailleur in regards to reliability but for fast smooth shifting you can't bet high end derailleurs.

    A question on torque

My son and I both have hard tail MTB,mine has rochshoc XC air while son has level coil shocks. They are world apart in performance, one area XC shine in is absorbing small bumps eg rough dirt roads.

Which bike from a choice of 3??

The Sarcaren is better spec bike, good brakes and air shocks. After having air shocks there is no going back, coil shocks. The other plus is it is running 38t chainring, which lowers gearing, not to be under estimated on those steeper hills. With 25km/hr cutoff you will be in 6-7 gear, with...

    Kalkhoff Integrale

The EVO is good choice if you can afford it. Looks like perfect commuter. Low maintenance quiet belt drive and hub gears for those traffic lights.

Which bike from a choice of 3??

Looking specs on Trek, brakes are good have them on my MTB, shocks very average. This is communter/ trekking and light off road ie hard packed trails. It is definintely not MTB material. E6000 STEPs is good drive system but is design for road and light off road use. I suspect price is quite...

    Ebike derestrictor

Tried using magnet on crank on Shimano STEPs bike. Works treat for a few minutes before controller decides you are trying to fool it. To clear error 14 put bike back to normal and ride with E014 displayed. The dongle is still best bet.

    Absolute newbie to e-bikes!!

Try googling Shimano STEPS (middrive system) with Di2 (electric hub gears). Middrive even in wrong gear will still help you get rolling. For price hub drive with throttle will most likely be cheaper and better in this situation. Best thing to do is test ride bikes. ElectricBikereview.com is...
