    E-Bike over 250W Legal??

Laws should exist for the benefit of society. When it is blatantly obvious that they do not serve us, we should ask ourselves who is benefiting from their existence and who they are detrimental to.

    E-Bike over 250W Legal??

I found otherwise. With the power I was pulling through geared hubs, I regularly stripped gears and turned them to a gooey mess. Since ditching them and progressing to direct drive motors, I can now climb hills like I could have only dreamed of previously. This of course is completely ignoring...

    E-Bike over 250W Legal??

I'll accept anything thrown at me as a result of my previous (fairly inflammatory considering the audience) post. What you guys are doing though, by the manner in which you are doing it, is putting people like Melvyn off electric bikes altogether. This "may the Lord smite thee down" approach...

    E-Bike over 250W Legal??

The operative word in that statement is 'potential'. I think that some of the posters here are overplaying the risk involved in running that kit. Now, I'm not saying that it isn't illegal, but if you act your age and don't ride like an utter loon, the chances of getting your collar felt are...

    Recharging

You can, it's called regenerative braking. It's only really available on direct drive motors that don't freewheel and energy re-capture is generally no better than 10%, but it also has the side-effect of reducing brake maintenance requirements to *almost* zero.

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

Totally. I just heard a report on LBC that across many parts of Britain the police will no longer respond to thefts and burglaries from next month. Do you really think they give a monkeys whether our bikes have a throttle or not?

    Charging e-bike from street charger

I'd like to do the same, but can't justify replacing the 16 lipo packs already installed in my bike when they all still work perfectly well.

    Charging e-bike from street charger

Most of you guys have it easy. I routinely carry 30Ah of lipo bricks that are too much of a ballache to remove from the bike to charge. As well as a charger, I also carry a 10m extension cable, a commando to 3-pin converter and an RCD to take advantage of any charging opportunity I might come...

Indeed. We are both entitled to an opinion after all.

Checking if a used bike has a reasonable battery

If you are unable to test a used battery in a meaningful way, either on the bike itself, or as Fordulike describes, then I'd assume it is worthless when factoring a price/cost.

    Charging e-bike from street charger

Not necessarily. Well, in the near future anyway. Recent trends in mobile technology have bought fast charging devices that achieve a large proportion of their charge in a relatively short amount of time. I think that this will become commonplace before long.

.....and phones and laptops and tablets and ipods and any other of the multitude of gadgets nearly every one of the country's inhabitants carry around and depend on. Then I'd imagine you'd have no problem obtaining signatures.

    Charging e-bike from street charger

I'm not trying to be awkward, but as much as I'd like to see a flexible DC charging infrastructure in place, I won't be wasting my time signing a petition that is 100% guaranteed to achieve nothing and only waste your own and anybody elses time that bothers to sign it. Had you tried to appeal...

    Charging e-bike from street charger

What you are describing requires AC-DC conversion at each point, which wouldn't come cheap. You're also giving the general public more credit than they're due when it comes to making the correct choices when it comes to voltage selection and charge rates. To do so safely requires control...

    Charging e-bike from street charger

Why? SMPS chargers are becoming so power dense now that they need not be heavy or cumbersome. Most charging limits are due to the battery rather than the charger anyway, so for most bikes there really is no need to be carrying a massive charger.

    Charging e-bike from street charger

I think UK ebike sales are estimated to be about 25,000 annually. You're dreaming if you think you're going to get 100,000 signatures within the space of 6 months. You'd be better off trying for regular BS1363 13A sockets that would be of use to a much wider range of society and easier to...

    Ebay E bikes

It's possible using a motor with the right winding, but as just one component of a complete system it's a completely meaningless statement.

    Charging e-bike from street charger

It's entirety possible, although an adapter isn't cheap: www.evbitz.uk/EVBitz.uk/T2___UK_13A.html The biggest hurdle however is the bureaucracy involved throughout the various EV charging schemes and the lack of interoperability between them.

    Another super bright head light

Ive been thinking about the excessive brightness of this twin light setup and have managed to come up with a solution. Using a CC/CV buck converter to limit the current supplied to the lights works a treat and gives an infinite level of brightness adjustment. As a side note, I discovered that...
