Direct Drive motor power consumption increase

There's not much to go wrong with a DD motor, so that behavior is pretty strange. First thing to check is that your brakes aren't rubbing. Assuming they're not, I'd look at your motor phase connections. Are you noticing any more heat than usual in the motor or controller? A motor of that milage...

    Downhill 2WD Conversion Project

I thought brake cutouts tended to work from a 5v feed on your average brushless controller. Why are BBS controllers any different?

    Best compact cargo/utility bike

These bags are great for the price aren't they? I find that they will comfortably hold 2 large grocery bags in each without any effort and 3 if I can be arsed to repack into the panniers. You must eat a hell of a lot of food if that isn't enough for a whole week :-) I find that even fully...

    Best compact cargo/utility bike

How much / what are you looking to carry? I also have recently looking into cargo bikes with a future purchase in mind, but the need has been somewhat reduced with the purchase of some large pannier bags: http://www.amazon.co.uk/RCP-WP100-carrier-bags-2015/dp/B00OT3AR52

Building a bike for heavy hill climbing on country roads.

Bloody hell, that's an amazing price for such a good kit. If I hadn't already had my heart set on a Crystallite kit from Grin Cyclery for my next build, (looking for something that will take some serious abuse and still be reliable) I would be ordering the Oxydrive kit NOW.

    Bike conversion kit on budget

It can be done if you're patient and take time to hunt for bargains, but you need to be prepared to put in the work. My first build is what you are describing (see: http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/index.php?threads/11818/) and is still going strong two and a half years later, although I have...

CycleCharge Project - Announcements & Discussions

Any update on the Cyclecharge scheme Morphix? I watched the countdown on the 'coming soon' page come and go a few weeks back and am still waiting in anticipation.

    Inverters

Have you looked at RC chargers, since they run straight from a 12v supply?

Magic Pie 3, UK legal ?

UK law says that your motor mustn't have a nominal rating of more than 250w - important part there is 'nominal'. There is no actual limit on the current you can run. If your motor is within this rating and you are able to keep it running at higher wattages, then you are within the law.

    Up hill struggle

I'd imagine that published gradients are averages of the hills in question and you'd find sections with steeper gradients than the figure quoted.

    Up hill struggle

Most definitely not impossible. I live in Wiltshire and can think of a few roads near me with 40% gradients for short distances. I prefer hub motors myself, but if I had to do a lot of climbing, I'd take trex's advice and get a mid-drive.

    Estimating Battery Power Used

This is just plain wrong. Lithium batteries of any chemistry will last longer the less they are taken to their voltage extremes (high/low voltage). This is why some individuals (myself included) do not charge to 100% and also ensure a rigorous low voltage cutoff during discharge. Actual voltages...

    AC/DC

Hi. I don't have the exact answer you are looking for, but I think it would be possible. After all, I imagine the AC power from a hub dynamo would have to be rectified to DC for the light to function. You might even find that it works straight from a DC source if it is within the correct...

CycleCharge Project - Announcements & Discussions

Although not quite what you are describing, maybe a peer-to-peer approach would be the way to go. You can register a charge point as a private (residential) owner, but I imagine even the most enthusiastic e-bikers (including myself) remain cynical enough to dismiss the idea and that really is a...

CycleCharge Project - Announcements & Discussions

Thanks for the heads-up. I think the Cyclecharge scheme is such a good idea and businesses are failing to see the potential benefits to their trade. Like everything else e-bike related in the UK, momentum builds at a snail-like pace, although this is in no way a dig at the schemes owners.

CycleCharge Project - Announcements & Discussions

Is this project still operational? What with all the recent discussion of e-bike touring and record breaking, I've been considering what it'd take to do my monthly return journey from Wiltshire to London by bike. I'm currently trying to decide whether I need more batteries or could manage the...

Can anyone help identify this bike?

Hi, welcome to the forum. I can't say that I've ever come across that model before, but electric bikes in general (in fact, all electric vehicles) are relatively simple machines and tend to share common modular components. First of all, you need to confirm how your batteries were destroyed...
