Upgrades, modifications & changes you should have made sooner.

Procrastination is a b**ch. Many a time I have put off doing something, only to regret not having done it sooner. A few examples are: Fitting mudguards - Because a mouth full of mud and a s**tty looking streak up your back is not cool. Fitting a pannier rack - Losing the rucksack and no...

    Terry Scott gets Badasse!

Over an hour and nothing yet.... Probably out on his Heil-bike.

Torque arm or not torque arm?

I'd never go without one on aluminium dropouts. The failure mode is too unpredictable and when it goes, it's catastrophic. Steel dropouts I wouldn't bother sub 1kW peaks and even then I might not until nearer 2kW depending on how meaty the dropouts are.

    Bike2 Chainless Electric Bicycle

As far as I can see, this doesn't feature any DC-DC conversion or secondary energy storage as part of the generation, which tends to be the most inefficient parts of the traditional generator model. EDIT: Flecc beat me to the point in a couple of posts above.

A 30mph crash fatality in something not tested or safe..

I'm just wondering what the relevance is whether an s-pedelec is legal or not. The result of the collision is the same as far as the rider is concerned either way isn't it?

    China & Taiwan Ban E-bikes

I read recently that it was the scooter style ebikes they were cracking down on and anything resembling a regular bike frame was being ignored for now. As a result, sales of traditional ebikes have risen in China.

I can't believe this s**t is still going on. It doesn't matter what you call it. Those that want to are still going to ride their bikes on 'private property'. I myself plan on going for a jolly tomorrow morning on my own private multi-acre estate. I do appreciate however that not all you plebs...

    1000w ebike ???

OMG! That's so irresponsible! We currently enjoy the option of not wearing a helmet. What happens if you're in an accident and an angry Daily Mail reader hears about it? They could be legislated for and made compulsory! /sarcasm

    1000w ebike ???

My Leatherman (w/locking blade) is part of my bike repair toolkit and goes everywhere with me where I take my bike. At all times it is kept in its pouch, which is somewhere at the bottom of a cliplock tupperware box with all my other bike kit, which in turn is kept at the bottom of my right...

I'll give it to you, that is a most excellent post. Problem is though that ebikes tend to blend in with regular pedal cycles, more so as technology improves. Enforcing a ban would be near on impossible and hard to argue that it would be in the public interest.

In that scenario, riders of illegal bikes will continue to ride illegally. As of this moment in time, the pedelec Gestapo are brining more attention of the issue than any law breaker.

How unlikely is that? Not going to happen is it? They'll just deal with the dimwit terrorising the neighbourhood.

    1000w ebike ???

Thinking further about this, a good parallel is the use of air weapons. They can be difficult to distinguish from an illegal firearm, but they've never been banned. The more I think about it, the less likely it seems like a general ban would occur due to the use of illegal bikes.

    1000w ebike ???

A quick thought.... In the UK electric bike use generally is pretty paltry, so this conversation occurs based on lots of assumptions and speculation. If we look towards other countries where electric bikes are a lot more popular, has there ever been a ban on any area of ebike use due to the...

    1000w ebike ???

Generally it does and as already stated, the majority own legal ebikes. As in most walks of life though, people are going to do what what they are going to do. If enough people tread a path, the law will tend to follow. Eventually. On the issue of access rights, you raise a whole lot of 'ifs'...

I miss smartbiker and actually found him really funny. Others weren't so fond of him. Turns out that sense of humour is as diverse as electric bikes can be.

    1000w ebike ???

I'm not about to go sticking dongles in my port, willy-nilly and am quite happy with sense of humour v1.0 thanks. Later versions seem to be bugged with an open-mindedness misallocation.
