    battery charge

Thread Hijack: Does anyone (d8veh?) know if the BMS in my Golden Motor 36V 12AH aluminium cased LiFePO4 battery is likely to allow this type of balancing by leaving it on for long periods??? Probably worth doing now and then, isn't it?

Buying a New Battery for Powabyke X24 - alibaba

Do bear in mind, that Aliexpress are TERRIBLE to try to contact, and you really have to pursue refunds, when requried. I'd have two biggish deals fall over (one supplier suspended, but you can't request a refund - you're supposed to wait for THEM to sort it; one supplier who upped shipping costs...

    Schumacher's Helmet

Ahh, very good - I wondered. ACC manages the costs they pay out, and also do accident prevention campaigns. It also means we can't sue via Civil Court for damages, as ACC covers the costs.

    Shunt Modification Questions

Awesome! Thanks. I've ridden to work and back twice now. Peak is under 20A everytime, hill climbing is only slightly reduced - maybe only 10% slower! It's less urgent off from a start, but plenty fast enough. I haven't noticed any real reduction in top/cruise speed assist, but I don't spend...

    Schumacher's Helmet

You'll notice I didn't say;)! Here in NZ, helmets ARE compulsory. I dunno if the UK is like this (I know the US isn't;)), but we have ACC (Accident Compensation Corporation) which is a Government Agency that is basically Medical Expense insurance for accidents (funded via taxes of varying...

    bike mirrors

I got these: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/cateye/bm300g-bar-end-mirror-ec009173 Totally brilliant - I filed a little groove in the bracket, so the mirror can swing further out. They are a reasonable size, which is brilliant for the roads I ride - lots of corners and hills in 60 MPH...

    New tyres....twisted !

Wow - Sounds like somethings gone wrong somewhere! I had mine shipped to me in NZ from Evans Cycles, (Marathon Plus, the touring ones) and they are brilliant - fitted easily (fingers only too, no tools!) and have been great, no punctures in 800kms. Hopefully they send you an undamaged set, and...

    User Titles

I never noticed before... but I actually look at poeples number of posts quite often - I'd like it back ;) I do think a bit of fun with titles is in order though... :D

    Shunt Modification Questions

You're a star  I like how the shunt is conveniently located in the easy to access end of the controller :D I ended up having to fiddle it all a bit - Since I was in there, I thought I may as well aim for 20A. After a lot of trial and error (but no BANGs) I ended up desoldering one end of...

    Measuring Battery Charge

I fitted one of the cheapy Watt meters that d8veh recommended in a thread somewhere - it works great! I haven't verfied it's readings, but it's close enough for what I need, I'm sure. I've mounted it on the handlebars temporarily, so I have some 4mm2 wire running from the battery connector up...

    Shunt Modification Questions

Haha... I'm too tired! 1) I need to SERIES the existing shunts, to increase the resistance! Not remove one! Do I actually want to double it anyway? I can alter the overlap between the two, to adjust it though.

    Shunt Modification Questions

Hi All, After a month of enough drama to make an American Soap Opera, I'm finally fiddling with "Frankentraption" again. I want to reduce the 33-35 Amp peak draw on my 36V 12AH LiFePO4 to a more sensible level - I was thinking to 20 Amps (it's supposed to be a 500W DD Motor kit, and currently...

    Happy New Year Kiwis

Were you waiting around just for that??? Well done! This year was the first year for a long time, when I actually made it to midnight! Had a few drinks playing cards, and toddled out to the Kombi and slept there with my Wife and 1 YO in my sisters driveway  3 YO slept inside, so didn't...

    Li battery cutting out

Thanks, Yeah, 33A sounds a lot to me anyway! I've just updated my battery connectors from 30A rated ones, to 75A rated ones  It is the Golden Motor Battery setup (that comes in the big alloy case, but I've taken it out now) - it has the rectangular cells. It's "supposed" to be capable of...

    Li battery cutting out

I used my new blue watt-meter :D Of course some of the numbers aren't recorded, because I arrived home to my wife trying desperately to phone me as the front door had been smashed in at the house and all our stuff rummaged through  Not much stolen though. Anyway! To work (never a...

    Recommend me a cheap bike

Agree - I'm not a small lad either... 6'1", about *coughahem*290*ccoughgasp* pounds. I had a big seat, with nice padding, which gave me a sore **** after about 10 mniutes, but by 20 minutes was numb enough to feel nothing (but my legs started to tingle!) Swapped it for a cheapy I hade from an...

    Li battery cutting out

I've been sick for 2 weeks, and on call last week, so no cycling! I did get my watt meter though! I may go for a ride tomorrow, and see what happens. I set the wattmeter up so it runs of an external 9v battery, so will keep running after the battery shuts off. It just plugs in between my...
