    Street parking commuter set up

I have one of those boxes to carry all my gear to work (I hate backpacks). They're not stunningly sturdy, in that a sturdy kick in the right place will pop it open. I also had the larger size (2 helmet size) with a battery inside, and the first day going to work, I bumped the bike while...

    Why cycling is good

Love it... Though I think the bike has cost more in repairs* than our old BMW.;) * by "repairs", I mean upgrades, extras, toys etc - That way the Woman of the house approves** of them ("They make it safer and more efficient, Sweetie") ** by approves, I mean rolls her eyes and says "uh-huh!"

    "Incident" last Friday...

So I'm merrily buzzing my way to work, just cleared an intersection having some major work done, then one of those annoying pedestrian crossings, where they put an island in the shoulder, right where I ride. Grr. Next thing I know, there is a Paper recycling truck beside me, in the central...

    NuVinci Desktop Application download?

Nah, the manual shifter isn't included, but I think it's pretty cheap. I should probably buy one, just in case! You need the shifter, and the mechanism at the back wheel.

    NuVinci Desktop Application download?

The developer kit is "auto" shifting, and that houses the motor that does the shifting. You can fit the standard manual shifter to it instead. Apparently the Developer kit is heavier duty that the standard N171 was (Though I can't confirm it - it just hearsay really)

    NuVinci Desktop Application download?

I read a lot about the inefficiency too. I guess the thing is, the "correct" gear is always available. I certainnly find the hills easier, and change ratios a lot, because it's so easy to do. Over my commute of about 6.5 miles, the cumulative elevation is about 600 feet, nearly all of it in the...

What would you do with this donor bike?

What would I do? o_O That IS what I do! One of two things would happen: Another Frankentraption - my daily is a 1996 Daimondback Outlook! All steel, masses of weight added, handles awesome.... or the other option. Find another one and break out the hacksaw and gas set. longtail cargo! I'm...

    NuVinci Desktop Application download?

I've got the N360 in my Daily, and the N171 developer kit for my cargo biks (still in the making though!). The software above is for the N171 based Developer kit. So far, I haven't used the N171 at all, so can't make comment, other than it's heavy! Apparently the developer kits units have the...

Looking at getting a kit for a Larger Rider.

I built my commuter on a 1996 Diamond back. We don't have the range of E-bikes over here though, and they are pretty expensive (compared to what I can get bits for online anyway - NZ could be very different to the UK though!) If you start with a bike you alrady ahve, you can upgrade it over...

    NuVinci Desktop Application download?

Thanks Triumph_st... that's the Harmony, which turns out to be different to the earlier Developer Kit (based on the N171) Cheers though! However... I did get a reply from NuVinci themsleves (although too late to play with last night :() with the following links - might be helpfull to someone...

Hi All, Does anyone have a link to the "NuVinci Desktop Application" to download, or is it small enough to email? My kit arrived without it! Argh! Cheers,

Conversion to rear hub or crank-drive?

Added to project list! I already discovered that buying an Electric mower means my wife mows the lawn more than I do! She's never done it before! I still do the ride-on mower parts... so the above might have the same effect on her!

    Who likes Crank-drives?

The programming appeals... we're only supposed to have "300W" of assist, but I think buying the 500W Bafang and altering it to suit, gives me options in the future ;) I've only just rebuilt my "Frankentraption" Bike... yet just ordered a Nuvinci Developer kit (US$125! from Utah Trikes) and am...

    Bike Mirrors

A right side (for left hand traffic) mirror should be a legal requirement. I'd not ride without one. The number of times I've seen a car well before I heard it is phenominal! Also, I can ride on the much better surfaces further out from the edge, and move in when vehicles approach - some of my...

Very Bright Very Cheap Light runs from battery

I'll try to get piccies on the actual light output... hopefully they're reasonable - I'm not sure wheather to aim one really high, as a "high beam" and switch it, or just have them both on all the time. Depsnds on the output I guess.

Very Bright Very Cheap Light runs from battery

Easy Peasy! One screw, turn and pull: I'm going to add somme glue, or foam to stop the innards rattling around - they look pretty bright, but probably not upto the level of proper expensive lights.
